ECCI multi-turn thoughts
I'm thinking about saving up for the ECCI multi-turn wheel. I currently have a perfectly fine (and fairly new) G25. Once you start buying high end stuff, it's hard to stop

The things I like about it:
  • Unlike most mass market FFB wheels, you can mount any size wheel without worrying about messing up FFB because it doesn't use FFB.
  • Since there's no FFB motors to burn out, this thing will probably last forever.
  • It can take abuse....
The things I'm worried about:
  • Will I miss FFB?
  • With no FFB and no centering spring, will I have issues recovering the car if it gets a little sideways? (I'm pretty bad at this in real life anyway!).
  • Will I get annoyed changing the max rotation all the time?
  • There's a few other wheels in development that look promising!
The things I don't like about it:
  • Changing the wheel rotation is a 30 minute process involving hand tools. While I expected it to be a little more difficult than an FFB wheel like the G25 where it's point and click, I was expecting it to be more like a 5 minute job.
So... what do you guys think of the wheel?
Its all negatives? I don't see the positive aspect of getting that wheel.

No force feedback, crap rotation change system, no force feedback, no force feedback.

Get the new FREX wheel when it comes out, up to 1080 degrees of rotation and FREX quality.
I think they look cool but they're probably not. But then I can't understand why people buy the Thomas Super Wheel either.

The positives would be the wheel probably feels more realistic than anything else on the market right now. When you turn the wheel, it has real "weight". Also, with the G25 I'm always hesitant to be forceful with the wheel especially since the ffb motors act as the stop for the degrees of rotation.

It's on my list. I'm a bit worried about the cost of the FREX wheel and the support.
Well, for starters for an ECCI wheel you will probably have to think about how much you actually want it. It is hugely expensive for just a wheel but it doesn't mean that it is one of the best as well. If you need to save up for it, I'd wait until I had the money and then think again simply because of the price.

Everyone seems to like the ECCI stuff and it has proven to be quite reliable too. The customer service is good as well and generally they seem to answer to emails quite quickly which is always a plus. Personally I've been thinking about going with ECCI wheel for a while but it seems so overkill with current sims.

I just can't see the point investing 1000s of euros in equipment to play games no matter how great the wheel is

But (:tilt because you live in the U.S. the Ecci might be the best option for you. In addition, take the CST pedals and FREX H-shifter and you're ready to go (:tilt

Tell me about it. But since I've already invested a small fortune into everything else, why should I stop now?! (besides the fact that im now broke).

I'm not sure if the Frex H-shifter can be used standalone. I may go with the TSW speedshifter. I have CST pedals, a racing seat on the way, and a bunch of aluminum from sim-gear all waiting to be hooked up. Once I stop messing around wasting all my money I might be able to play LFS again!

Get all of stuff you've ordered now installed, and play it with your G25. Then, once the FREX wheel is out and the price is shown you can see what you want to do.
