Ya, ice-hockey is all about violence. Let them spill some blood and beat others really good. Hit them hard with your fist to the stomach and use your club to hit to the head! After he has fallen, kick him into the groins using skate!
I prefer volley ball and basket ball over ice-hockey (Because of violence) and soccer (Because of ridiculous "injuries").
Erm, no that's not what you see in the NHL... I know you were exagerating but honestly the only kind of tackles you see is people running into eachother hitting the other on the wall. You don't see them swining the sticks around or they get suspensions...
I like them all lol.
Only ''sports" I don't like are Golf, Baseball and Curling...
Lol naw fights are aloud if they both drop the gloves meaning they both agree to fight. If one doesn't drop the gloves then theres no fight :P. If they do drop the gloves, the ref's do watch because its a ''legal'' fight. The fight stops as soon as one's on the ground meaning that if one pushes the other on the ground its over. They don't NEED to punch eachother till they bleed to death...
And then, not sure if its the winner or loser, gets a penalty. :P
Hmm just look at the pic in my avatar. (Pavel Bure)
A fine example why it's not. Hockey is a difficult sport to master.
And yes it can be violent. But it's not about violence.
You have to score 1 goal more than your opponent. Not kill them all.
Hmm. but maybe killing them all can help!
I never feel a gladiator when i play and i never felt the urge to kill someone while playng. I think if we ask all the child who play hockey what they dream about you will get answer like " i want to score a goal like Gretzky/Lemiux/Insert random famous hockey player".
Huge brawl? I see worst brawl in amateur soccer.
It's like Formula 1. Normal fans like to see speed, overtakes, driving abilities. Stupid fans like accidents.
Thanks Frokki for the links!
P.S. Fighting depends on league. Nhl normally 5 minutes, but you can get 2 minutes for "instigation" or even get trown out. Euro generally for what i know it's somewhat more strict, but not too much. International tournaments, i think here it's really strict.
In the NHL it is that way, they just let them keep fighting. In minor hockey (What I officiate), we're supposed to try and stop the fights as soon as we can without injuring ourselves. I dunno, even as a hockey referee, I still can't stand to watch it on TV.
I actually can't believe how anti-hockey some of you are though, especially seeing NHL shit is boring as hell compared to minor hockey and Junior. The lower levels are so much more entertaining than NHL.
Rubens - Most of the world follows the IIHF rules, except for (surprise) Canada and USA. Here a fight is 5 minute major + game misconduct to both players. and there's instigator which is a 2 minute minor and there's aggressor which is 2 as well. The instigator and aggressor though are optional, and should only be used if a player is trying to start the fight relentlessly, and the aggressor is if someone just shitkicks the other player, or is being overly-aggressive.
Evilpimp - Fighting is against the rules, so both people do get penaltys, just NHL does it for a show, whereas every other level is harshly against fights, and want them broken up ASAP.
Winner takes the 1st place in group F and will most likely play the quarter final against Norway or Latvia, when the loser takes the 2nd place in group F and plays against USA in the quarter finals.
I just hope for god sakes that for once the referees have a little clue what they are doing there..
First those two Russian referees should be banned (FIN - USA 3:2) and then the whole team USA for attacking (at least twice) an opponent when the game was stopped. Dunno what will happen if they meet again...
Not Italy
Here penalty depends... on the fight itself
I was talking about pro leagues, in minor hockey league we have same as USA Canada then. (you go out of the game).
But in Pro Italian league they are somewhat more tolerated, way less than NHL though.
What disturbes me is the excalation of "cheap shots" in the NHL. To me they have to punish more often and hardly the cheapshots no matter if they result in serious injury or not. That, in my opinion, is what is giving NHL bad name.
Meh, i will not predict outcomes of world championship anymore.
Better. I will not predict any hockey game again. (Ruben: " Rangers? Rangers will won in 4 games against Pittsburg." Yeah Ruben. Right. )
Dawedust:- Arent also some French Canadian "goon" leagues? I even heard somewhere, they wanted to do a "enforcer night" of only fighting, bleah. Not for me.
I'm not so sure, I do know that the East coast does have a bit rougher hockey, but it seems the West has a lot of those fun bench-clearing brawls on occasion. I know that actually here in BC (Kamloops if I recall correctly) they did hold that thing where all it was for was fights, and was a huge Pay-Per-View thing and everything. ****ing maniacal if you ask me though.
