OMFG that's ****ing huge!
Did they just take a bloody turbine off a jet plane and stick it in a computer?!
You sure that's not going to make loads of noise?

Notes:

Used eBuyer because I know my way around their site and because they are usually cheap. Feel free to look at other sites to see if you can save a few £'s here and there.

Parts:

Vista Home Premium x64 OEM - What you want.

Samsung F1 - One of the fastest drives on the market. 1TB.

Sony DVD Drive - Cheap drive, Sony (quiet), retail, comes with a copy of Nero.

Q6600 - Great CPU. Can be overclocked to 3.2-3.6 GHz with air cooling. Better than any AMD CPU on the market.

Corsair 650w - Good price for a good amount of power - not modular but a very good make and a good performer.

Z-5500 - You wanted them.

OCZ RAM - Was going to get a cheap branded DDR800 kit, but 4GB of Crucial memory was £58, £67 for much faster RAM seemed like a good idea. Choesen because cheap for spec.

X-Fi Xtreme Music - Proper X-Fi, good card. If music is really important an Auzentech X-Fi card or Asus Xonar card may be a better idea.

Gigabyte board - Cheap P45 board, has dual 16x lanes for crossfire. No RAID but overclocks pretty well.

4870 - Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast. Can buy another for crossfire if needed.

Antec 900 - Cases are a personal thing, but some to check out are the Antec 900/1200, Stacker 832, P180 (/P182) etc. Antec 900 is a good case at a reasonable price.

Arctic Silver - thermal paste (goes between CPU & heatsink) - one of the best on the market and very useful.

Freezer 7 Pro - Cooler for CPU, will make it cooler and quieter and look cooler. Akasa 965 is known to be slightly better but couldn't find it.
If you need any help with anything, feel free to MSN me (although don't annoy me too much ) if you need a quick question answered, but never underestimate the value of a forum - someone else can come along and recommend a deal on a part they found and save you £!
Jesus that is close to £1000! You couldn't get it closer if you tried lol.

Im going through www.dabs.com to find those parts now

The ram? Why 2 Of 2Gb in 1Gb sticks?
Why not just simply 2 OF 2Gb Sticks?

The graphics card i have never heard of before! And what is crossfire? Also what would be the point in two graphics cards? Just makes it faster?

And for the fan ill check out Akasa 965 although the Freezer fan looks huge, sure that fits in a case?

Edit: haha if i was to msn you it'd be to get to know you more, rather than just to pester you about computer parts :P But yeah sure, if i come into some problems, or need advice on building the computer i shall indeed msn you

In theory 2x 2GB sticks is the best way to go (although I'm not so sure), however honestly it doesn't make that much difference and they were cheap and very fast.

The graphics card i have never heard of before!

Then Google "ATi 4870" and be amazed

And what is crossfire? Also what would be the point in two graphics cards? Just makes it faster?

Crossfire is a technology that allows you to hook 2 identical ATi cards up together for a big performance gain - not double the speed, but around 70% extra performance boost.

And for the fan ill check out Akasa 965 although the Freezer fan looks huge, sure that fits in a case?

Yeah, it'll be fine - of course it doesn't hurt to check the measurements (a case should be around 6 inches wide minimum, and then factor in the room for the mobo + mountings and room for the air to move around), but compared to other heatsinks (Tuniq Tower, Gemin II etc) it's on the small side.

.....
A note on the Antec 900 (I have one).

It has 9 visable drive bays, 6 of them (2 'hard drive cages' with a fan in each 'cage' which will fit 3 hard drives) are for 3.5inch drives (HDDs etc) and 3 are for 5 1/2 inch - DVD drives etc.

It's a very good case - excellent airflow and runs much cooler than my old case did, and yes an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro fits in without any bother.

Only downside is, it sucks up dust like there's no tomorrow!! Make sure you have a hoover and a can of compressed air handy every 2 months or so.

Hoover inside the case? :|

*imagines self in 3 months vacuuming inside of computer when processor and ram detaches itself from mobo and flys up the tube*

Use the compressed air to blast and lift off the dust while the hoover nozzle is near the case to suck up all the dust that starts floating around... Otherwise sneezing fits may occur and the dust then goes EVERYWHERE (i know from experience) Then use the hoover on a low power setting to clean up the dust on the fans and at the bottom of the case

If you smoke - good luck, the tar/crap from fags makes the dust sticky and it doesn't come off without a fight if at all. At work we refuse to touch computers that smokers use and leave in such a state due to it being a health risk.

Also if you have dogs or cats I'd do it more often than once every couple of months.
Oh right, well my hoover doesnt have a low power setting, but im sure we have a lil mini hoover.
And i dont smoke so i wont have any trouble getting the dust off
And oh, i'll just destroy my cat, then he wont create lots of hair to be in the case.

Btw is it possible to remove one of the front fans and it will still be cold'ish?
Or perhaps move it around?
why would you want to remove one?

It needs them both to be honest as the fan on the top is huge and the one at the back both blow air out, so 2 at the front blowing air in keeps a good flow around the case. Plus they help keep hard drives cool and supply air to graphics card and PSU aswell as the CPU/RAM etc.
No clue, but its better to know then not know and be stuffed.
Well thanks for the info
Right this is the last time ill be posting a new parts list I've managed to convince my dad to buy the computer, but he's now buying it for himself but letting me use it(And to cover up the fact he's bassicly just stolen my computer he's buying me a SLR camera + Lens + Tripod + SD Card, Giving me his old laptop and buying me some Logitechs Z-5500's XD). But theres a bonus, because its going to be mainly his he wants an amazing computer. So i upgraded all the parts from my list i had to be immense.

The PSU is going to be changed im just finding out what it should be changed to on another forum

Also does anyone know if there's any fan controllers in the Antec 900? I know there is in the 1200 but there not in stock for a while :/.
And also is there any other good looking cases that are just as cool as the Antec 900/1200?

And finally, any links about building computers?
Any guides to it, seeing as it will be ordered today i need to spend the next 3-4 days reading up on it.

Thanks

try tekheads they are usually cheap even if postage is 4.99 IIRC
I have an Antec 900. Each fan has a 3way switch so you can set the speed of each fan. Unfortunately they are not external on the case.

I got an additional fan for the side panel and the cable is long enough to put the switch for the side panel and rear fan through the water cooling holes at the back of the case....see pic.

Ahah thank you i pm'ed mr x earlier and he's given me some extra info, so thank you both.

Btw will the fan controller i have in the list be able to control the case fans?

The PSU has been changed to 1000w now, as my dad says its useful to have that if we ever upgrade parts, altho id like to know if theres any dangers of over powering or something?

And lastly will all of that fit in the case?

Quote from speedway :won't work P'n'P, since the antec case fans have a 4pin molex plug and an additional 3pin plug for the rpm signal (garph and other antec owners, correct me if im wrong) but thats what it looks like from pictures i've seen

in this case you could simply cut off the cables for the power supply and rpm signal and solder them with with a 3pin molex plug

(thats what i did with my case)

Crap, DIY, i suck at that :/
