Quote from Becky Rose :I've been watching the recorded stream as I missed it live, as broadcasters you cant do much about the constant safety cars which I guess is a sign of it being the start of the series - but I do get confused by the commentary.

This might just be me because I have an issue with numbers, but referring to the cars by their number is confusing so after 2hrs I still dont know who is who.

As a person who does real-life commentary, sometimes it can be easier to go by numbers in a series/sport where the numbers are predominant.

But also, I make every effort to have a quick-guide in front of me that has their name with their number, so I can quickly glance down and get the name.

And this is not yet a series, but I am considering making it one, perhaps it would add more incentive to get more involved. I am using these races to finish fine-tuning the rules, and as I get them finished, a series of long-haul oval races may come about.

Actually I see your point because in nascar and indy races i've watched the commentators are much number driven than we tend to be over here, where we tend to use a drivers name. For me though as I say I personally get utterly muddled with them so it might just be me.

I didn't know who was who either, most of the time. Problem with those cars is that most of them didn't even have a number on their skin, or if they did it was TINY. So referring them by their number is probably just as useless as referring to them by their name. Especially at lo-res. I might as well be saying "the pretty blue car" and "that white stripy one", it would probably be clearer.

That makes three of us.

Actually, concerning confusion in the commentary, Mr. 2March pointed out that especially in the end of the race the commentators had no idea what was going on and they were sort of guessing. This is probably due to no-one of us actually knowing anything about oval racing.
