Rubbish mobo - will you need RAID or overclocking?

Don't bother with a Maxtor drive - get a Samsung 1TB F1 - much faster.
wth is RAID? and no no overclocking. No knowledge about that.

What is a good motherboard then for you? Striker 2?

hang on, new HDD then.

btw, drives are SATA
#4 - Jakg
Then a basic P35 board like the Gigabyte P35-DS3 would be fine for you.

The Striker is needlessly expensive with SLi you don't need.
P35 uh?

I'm not really familliar with the Gigabytes, that DS3 kinda looks cheap. Any better mobo which is Asus branded?

I wont be buying a soundcard so onboard for me.

as for the hdd.

Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB €119
Sorry for double post but.

How is the Asus P5Q WS?

And What PSU do you prefer?
#7 - Jakg
If you wanted an Asus board the P5Q is ok, as is the P5K-E WiFi/AP.
Just to say, the DS3 is brilliant. I've put it in my new machine, and it really is. It also has 7.1 onboards surround sound, so there's no problems there. It has energy saving features that kick in when you're not gaming also. Pretty neat package overall, and dirt cheap

It's ugly, though - I know it shouldn't sway me but dear god it looks like a 5 year old coloured it in.

The onboard sound is "average" in comparison to proper sound, and most boards now have some sort of energy saving feature.

The P35-DS3 is nice and cheap, but the DS3R is usually a better buy if you can find some for a few £ / $ etc more.

I'm an Asus fanboy through and through for my machine though - when I had 2x P5K's die in a row I tried to move to Gigabyte but nothing they had at the time actually beat the P5K-E WiFi/AP (god I hate that name! Make a non-WiFi one already!) so I ended up back with Asus. Co-incidentally I also ended up with 2x Asus graphics cards
to chime in, jakg, mobos with solid state caps are win

because they are much more sturdier and bad caps are more than not the main issue with a blown mobo.

Why, exactly?

(ftr the DS3 has solid state japanese caps, the S3 (which may have been discontinued after the P965 days) doesn't iirc).
I really cant choose. I will buying it this week. I have around the 2k euro's. Sold my other one and saved a bit. I also want to keep money after buying this PC

Thx for the Gigabyte info, but I will still buy the Asus P5Q since that also supports PCie 2.0. I know that it also will work on that 1.1 but still Asus .

I really went cheaper now. still same performance.

P5Q pro instead of the WS.
Case cheaper.
Samsun Spinpoint T 500gb.

I used a 320gb before and it still was alot. So I hope that the 500gb will we enough. Guys? what TFT Monitor do you prefer around the €200?
#13 - Jakg
If your only getting a 500GB drive then the Seagate 7200.11 drive is probably a better bet, although iirc theres a very fast 640GB drive I can't remember the name of.

PCI-e 2 really doesn't make that much difference atm, but it's always "a handy thing to have".

What PSU will be powering all of this?
Toughpower CM (750 Watt) € 119,- I think.

And monitor?

Almost there
it certainly is nice to have some leg room with the psu... but your system won't draw more than... 300 watts? i would be surprised if it used more than that, what with the 8500 sucking less than 50W at full tilt and the 4870 certainly less than 200W. dunno... seems a bit too much. (i see in benchies, here, for instance, that a system with quadcore extreme and 4870 uses less than 300W under load)
Well? your saying that I can go a bit more cheaper on the PSU? how does the 500w sound?
You could take 500w PSU, but i think buying once a nice high wattage Powersupply will serve you for a long time, i think you should go with 750w if the price is not too big difference.

What inch monitor you are looking for? Can you please send the link from where you are buying from, so its easier to suggest items.
Also consider Western Digital harddrivers too, they're really good.
Fixed, Went alot cheaper same performance. And that will be my new system. Going to buy in over an hour or so. Any suggestions before I buy?!

Btw, Will it runs Crysis fast? I mean, I used a E6750 and a 8800GT both stock before and yet it was very frusterating in actions.
$.02, love my DS3R. It did 450fsb no problem out of the box on my E6750, never even seen the max it will do. Apparently the DS3L is just as good, and super cheap.

Looks like a nice build, good luck!
Thanks, 2GB for dual channel.. I heard that 4gb doesnt really work unless it is 64-bit.
#22 - Jakg
? 4 GB works fine on 32-bit (i.e. you wont see all of it but it wont cause errors or anything), although 64-bit is a much better bet

hm. while i DID suggest you go from the 750W to a 500W one, it would be nice if you stayed at more or less the same price region... maybe it would be better if you stayed with the 750W one after all :/

Quote from Jakg :you wont see all of it

where did you see that?
#24 - Jakg
32-bit OS (I assume Windows) + 4GB of RAM means that you won't be able to use all 4 GB (even if Vista SP1 32-bit will now read the correct amount), rather between 2.75 - 3.5 GB of it.
750? I really have to save some money. After this week I wont be working anymore because of school. So I just get checked by my dad until I get a job.

I'm Also thinking of getting a Yamaha TZR so
