So the Ryder cup comes around again, this time it's over the pond (or in the backyard depending upon location) and it should be a corker. So is anyone going to be watching it and what’s you're views on the weekend ahead?
Personally, I see the Americans getting this one. Missing Tiger Woods is a blessing in disguise for them, no longer do they feel forced to pair the top 2 together, and for once I think there is a genuine team bond within the team. Also some of the players picked have been very high on the stats regarding GIR and Fairways hit, and with Valhalla set up for the longer hitter this will play towards their hands.
In comparison the Europeans are going with a couple of niggling issues hanging over them. The captain’s selection of Poulter over Darren Clarke (and our Monty) has caused some suggestion that Poulter has a direct line to Faldo......and that Faldo wanted to keep it with his boys. Fair do's after all he is the captain, but to not pick the form player in Clarke, and pick a player who has failed in the last 4 tournament to place within the top 25......it's risky.
Regardless of the outcome, the Ryder Cup will be compulsive viewing for anyone interested in Golf, and I will be spending the weekend in the company of badly dressed people at my local club, drinking a large amount of Magners cider and maybe if the mood takes me, a smoke from a Jimenez style cigar.
p.s. Kids smoking is bad, please do not copy Jimenez puffing action, but do copy his swing if you play gof.
