Here's one of my everfirst attempts in making a skin...with Gimp and very little knowledge. It's not finished.

I noticed that the 2048x2048 psd master skinnerz template (all of them) are horizontally "compressed". If I wanted to make some nice round wheel covers (as opposed to now, as I just followed the polygons) what are the proportions I should resize to ?

Thanks.

Never mind: found this http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=15724 and others...

The skins in LFS are horizontally 'compressed' too. There is no exact ratio to use as all cars are a bit different and the stretching is not uniform along the length of the whole car. But as a rough guide stretch the image to 2560 x 2048, then make your changes and additions, then resize it back to 2048 x 2048. Having said all of that, the wheel arches are not round anyway, so you've still got a bit of work to do to make a smooth curvature around them. In essence you'll still be following the shape of the polygons on the 3D model.
