The online racing simulator
Quote from modelmotorracing :Personally I don't think drivers should do anything you wouldn't see on a normal racetrack. This is supposed to be a racing simulator, not an arcade game.

If realistic simulation was a priority midracejoining would have been disabled aswell.

I guess it's all just a part of lfs/ctra culture.

Primarily @modelmotorracing, but generally..

With the LFS simulator, we could easily have implemented a structure to CTRA racing that would have been comparable with iRacing's racing structure. Given the option of extended qualifying periods and time-alotted racing, we elected instead to go with the public pickup style that you see with CTRA (because we prefer it). Having done so, it was important to define where the focus of our rules were to apply.

We deliberately chose the window between grid and finish, and (apart from constraints regarding offensive language) almost no regulations apply outside that window. I'm absolutely sure that if we were more strict outside that window, the environment would be more tense, more oppressive, the racers will be accumulatively more agitated and edgy the longer they spend in CTRA at a time, and ultimately the racing will be less enjoyable. Time in the server has got to leave racers with a feeling that CTRA is fun and easy-going, even though racing rules are applied strictly and with consequence. If the overall impression of CTRA is less than that, it will hemorrhage.

I understand fully the simulator ethos and I recognise the value of systems like iRacing but the way we operate is different, there is far more racing in CTRA, for far longer at a time than in iRacing, on a driver-by-driver basis. It's a fact that if you hold your breath when you're tense, and if you're never given an opportunity to pant, you'll eventually pass out.
pass-out = a lot of divers crashing...hmm I could see the appeals now...

I would like to see racers heading to the pits after a race, but Sam is right and we run a public based system and people do need time to relax and recompose before the next race.

When the event system does get put in place I have a good feeling that the idea of heading to the pits will be implemented. =0

OT: Sam pls remind me to not to make replies to certian individuals on the forum, they are more closed minded than I am!
Quote from NightShift :Since when doing burnouts = venting frustration ? looks more playful to me.

And if one needs to vent after a race then maybe he/she hasn't had his/her share of fun.

They would probably relax better after the race, if there was no need to watch out for rammers

Oh come on... this is a GAME. We are PLAYING the game and we are all mainly here to have FUN. Anyone using the CTRA simulator for any professional gain and takes the simulator in such serious light is in need of a strong Gin and Tonic (Bombay Sapphire with plenty of lime...)

The CTRA system is by far the best LFS racing system implemented, infact the best online racing system ever. I dropped my iRacing subscription simply because I didn't have the time for the awkward system. I liked the racing when I could. But I have a very busy job, 7 month old son and a life to enjoy. CTRA is perfect for high quality, pick up racing.

It's high quality because of the common sense rules implied by Sam et al. Its also high quality because of the common sense attitudes by most that race on the servers. e.g. if you want to save your FFB motors, spectate at the end of the race. If you don't like people messing about on an online game simulator at the end of a stressful, close quarters race, then spectate...

Seriously, there are far more important things to worry about than a few people messing about at the end of the race ruining a few peoples perfect worlds. It isn't as if the cars damage lasts beyond a single race, or as if you incur any physical damage (apart from the odd coffee cup incident)

I love CTRA for its rules, but I actually love it more for the way they are enforced... with common sense (something that is REALLY lacking in this modern age)

<end rant>
Tried to read all the post but got bored. Wrecking after the race we always do. But I never hit anyone I dont know. Its occasianly though. I normally teleport to pits and fiddle around with the setup. Try to do a extra lap see if the setup is better or worse. And then its rather annoying when people are crashing you.

When your in the higher sevrers gold and up I think the majority doesnt wreck. Sure for the fun sometimes. Wrecking isnt the way to drive a sportscar. You never see in real life crashing after the finish. There about to wreck some real expensive stuff then.

This is what I keep in mind. You never would do it with a real car. And if need to wreck go play carmaggedon or something like that.
To me LFS is a sim and you should handle like a sim.
Quote from yeager :Oh come on... this is a GAME. We are PLAYING the game and we are all mainly here to have FUN.

Sure, and my idea of fun is not being wrecked.

Some others think differently? fine with me, they can go crash somewhere else if they like the experience so much. There's plenty of walls. I'm not joining a server to play the role of a moving target.

Quote from yeager :Tell David Coultard that after 246 Formula races he's not had enough fun... get over it man and Shift + S!

I'm not sure what's your point here as I have no problems with people doing burnouts. I said it looks like a joyful expression to me

+1

This is common sense.

Wouldn't it be great if the F1 drivers just randomly crashed into each other after the finish line?

One did a full somersault.

I don't remember that and can't find it on youtube. Did they really intentionally wreck each other?
Can anyone who tires to defend all that wrecking please drop the "go Spectate" thing please? Surely it's obvious you should spec after the race or other if you don't want to get wrecked, but try doing this in CTRA 1 in peak hours...will you make it to the next race cause of full grid?

Wrecking is lame, after finish or not doesn't really matter for me and nothing will change my mind. And just before anyone will start, I usually go and park the car in places far from idiots who "have fun" (in their own way I guess...) So I'm not really influed by this problem, still I'd be glad happy to see it gone...

Ah, that explains it, I was 2 at that time and didn't start watching F1 until 10 years later.
