Yup, hybrid cars, not pure electric... The compition only allows you to run a pure electric car your first year of competition or in the event of a failure of your hybrid system.
Typical setup tends to be an IC engine acting as a generater to recharge batteries/capacitors, though there are a few schools running a parrallel system (both IC and electric motors can power the wheels)
IC engines are limited to 250cc, or 350cc if bio-desil is used.
While they had trouble with endurance, Dartmouth deserves mentions for their cars brutal manlyness.
they destroyed the drag races with a 4second 0-60 time... Note the huge rack of I belive ~80 super capacitors
