on the opening page"car and list of modes" I have somehow got the lettering white so that the top ones don't show aginst the white back ground ,I fiddled with the settings in "interface" but can't change it.Help please

Could you give us a screenshot as I can't quite picture what you're trying to describe.

Rename your interface_cfg.txt (in LFS root) to something else, then start LFS. A new interface_cfg.txt is created with default values.
