My boss wants to have wireless interwebs at his summer house to do simple things like pay bills, check his emails and probably SM Liiga results. According to Elisa, who afaik have the best coverage atm, the place is in a GPRS/EDGE area. Is it workable to get a USB 3G modem (aka "mokkula"), or will it be so insanely slow to use there's no point?

EDGE is slow, but not unusable. However wouldn't you have to get an EDGE-specific modem?

Well it's a different protocol from GPRS and HSPA so I'd imagine so. I'm unsure if the devices in Finland have it. They're the same Vodafone USB 3G modems as in the uk.

In fact, I just noticed I made a mistake. EDGE is not listed with GPRS, it's separate. Makes sense. GPRS I think would be too slow, but if the modem supports EDGE, I'll have to give it some thought.
