buying online
hi,
im 14 and i want to know with my bank card can i buy something online as i can buy stuff using chip and pin. thanks
Does it have a mastercard, visa or discover logo on it?

If it's just a normal ATM card, then it won't work.

Alternatively, you can get disposable debit cards, you buy credit for it, just like you would for your phone. I'm not sure about the details for it in the UK though.
If it is a "Solo" card from the HSBC or similar, then you will have no problems.
I will however warn you about buying online using the wrong type of card....
I once tried to buy something and used my Donor Card by mistake...

......and it cost me an arm and a leg!!!!

OP: If you have chip and pin, then it's almost definitely a credit card. I've never seen an ATM card with chip and pin. Although I'm not sure how you got a credit card at 14
It's probably a debit card. Most places should be fine, but some require credit cards.
On topic, and something that I thought of..
My experience with using these 'debit' cards (through watching EmmyLou!) is that while a lot of sites WILL accept them, there are quite a few that need full credit cards to make purchases.
The reason for this, as explained by Tesco Onlie helpdesk is quite logical really.
When we asked them why they would not accept Emmy's card, they explained that as these sort of cards were freely available to people under 18 (Emmy has had hers since she was 12!) they could not take them because if they did, there would be nothing stopping kids buying booze, 18-rated films, or even (Heaven forbid!!1!!!) 18 rated games like GTA4
Therefore, the reasoning is sound, even though it is a PITA.
It doesnt work in all cases though, for example, HMV accept them for online purchases, and NO age checks! (so buy your violent games and soft pr0n from HMV! )

Debit cards? I've got a Visa Debit and a Solo and both have chip 'n PIN and work fine online.

Only got sent them after my 16 birthday, though.

(OT - I love being 17 - means when you try to buy something you don't have the cash for it just gets rejected rather than putting me into a ludicrously expensive overdraft!)
ye its debit
