Quote from titanLS :First of all, iTunes wouldn't know punk if punk spit in it's face. Second of all, you asked for people's input. That's what you got. You can't make a thread and then tell people who you don't agree with not to post in it.

I was telling YOU. not everyone else, because you have to give crap about what they listen to. you said, all the bands in here are garbage. I am so positive that no one wants to read that.

Don't forget, punk is not about a certain sound, a certain image, it's not about what iTunes says... it's about a mindset, an ideal, unity and a sense of individual freedom from authority.

Many of the bands listed here are just selling an image or sound, there's no soul. Entertainment to many? Yes, but definitely not punk.
Quote from GrIp DrIvEr :iTunes considers it Punk. if it isn't then SOOORY. We don't need anymore of your imput. Don't post any of your two cents either.

Then iTunes couldn't find its arse with both hands.

Punk bands don't compromise. Once they do, they're not punk any more.

'Punk' is so illusive, I'm beginning to wonder wether it actually existed, every band is 'not punk' for some reason, then what is?

Its more about the message than the music, I prefer music rather than political rantings.

My Itunes gave Coldplay the genre label of 'punk'.
Quote from zeugnimod :Wow.

So show us some Estonian punk bands.

Ok, most of the popular Estonian punk bands started at late 80´s as protest against Soviet Union and have anarchist ideology.

Quote from GrIp DrIvEr :whats your favorite punk rock band? and what's your favorite song that they made by your favorite punk rock band?

Fav. Mine: Rise Against
Fav. Song: Chamber the Cartridge.

Punk Rock died in 1978. Any band since doesn't have any valid claim on the Genre.
Die Ärzte
The Ramones
The Clash
Sex Pistols

and called horror punk, The Misfits (great stuff guys!!)
Huh ! wonder how many people in this thread were even alive in 1976.

And how come no-one's mentioned the originals, the Godfathers of Punk, Iggy and the Stooges, or even their bastard love children The New York Dolls.

For what it's worth, i don't think any 70's British Punk band could hold a light to The Damned - before they went all pop-shitty-tastic -. Generation X had a couple of decent albums, the Clash had some decent tunes too, i always thought the Buzzcocks where shite, and the Pistols was more of a money making venture for Malcolm Mclaren than a real band, more hype than talent, but isn't that the music biz in a nut shell....
Buzzcocks are awesome.
Nah, Pete Shelley's voice really gets under my skin, really annoying and whiney.

It's ok for a one off novelty record like Jilted John, but for a serious punk god to sound like he's just trapped his nads in a door, it's not right, know what i mean ?

Basically the artistry in punk 'singing' is to shout, in the most angry and menacing way. But when Shelley does it he sounds no more menacing than a big girls blouse. So how are a group of disaffected teenagers looking for a rolemodel supposed to take that seriously ? (Apparently Boy George was a big Buzzcocks fan...)

I love both Pete Shelley's voice and also Graham Fellows' piss-take of Pete Shelley's voice.

Two words... John Shuttleworth
