Another mouse driving method.
I was wondering that alot of people who drive mouse/keyboard, doesnt know this feature in LFS. Its very nice for people who cruise or just have fun.

The mouse will work like this after doing this tutorial:
Left/Right: Steering
Up/Down: Acceleration/Braking

1. Step
Go to 'Options > Controls' and select 'wheel/joystick' driving method from upper center.

2. Step
Click on 'Axes/FF' and follow the picture below.

Make sure that the 'Throttle/Brakes' are set on 'combined'.

1 = Click on one of these and ...
2 = ... Choose the axis.

If you dont know wich one to set for steer/acceleration, then just look at the picture. Theyr set up correctly on it.

Step 3
You can manage the other buttons, if your driving with manual gearbox then you can set the clutch and handbrake on left and right clock (as i did)

I hope that it was a useful tutorial for mouse/keyboard drivers. Thank You.
Oops, i think its under wrong section. Could anyone move this? ... and sticky? =)
Its a good idea mate willl try it later. Would be easer to control the throtle I would of thought
Yes, its very cool

But, i can say that its very hard to drive like that. Atleast at beginning ... it really is ...
I just use the right and left click so i can control the car easily but this method is Ok.
I've tried this ages ago I couldn't drive for shit
As far as I drive with mouse, I use keyboard for Acceleration ( U key ) /Braking ( J key ) and Gear down (Y key).

And Mouse for Steering, gear up ( left btn), horn ( center ), lights and TeamSpeak Control (right btn).

I think, that´s the best combination possible, gives you stability while braking and gearing down.
W - Accelerate
Space . Brake
E - Shift up
Q - Shift down
R - Handbrake
3 - Lights
B - Horn

Mouse - Steer
Left click - Look Left
Right click - Look right
Mouse wheel up - Tractrion control
Mouse wheel down - Pit speed limiter
Click mouse wheel - Look behind

Very confortable, fingers never do a odd movement to press a button
The method described by the OP is the best, if you don't have a wheel.

I've been driving like this for at least 3 - 4 years and it works like a charm.
It's just a matter of practice and patience, and of course you need a good mouse, such as an MX518.

Then driving the LX6 for example isn't a problem at all, plus you can chat on the BL1 straight without a problem

i also use this keys ,very comfortable to press.just like playing counter strike..lol..
I've used this method before, it's good for cruising

However, I wouldn't use it for racing, because to change gear you must release the throttle, which means moving the mouse down fast (Whilst steering) This often results in accidental braking or gearing whilst still accelerating, both are bad heh.
+1 for #11

Not a problem if you're driving some sequential or semi-auto.
Use this method of accel/braking about 50/50, other times I just use left click to accell, right click to brake. It's very handy on cruise servers or on servers where tuning tweaks are enabled so you're not delivering the full engine power immediatley.
since i haven't seen anyone using it, i'll share my old mouse setup:

mouse to steer
lmb - shift up
rmb - shift down
a - clutch
s - throttle
d - brakes
space - handbrake
q - look left
e - look right
w - loock backwards
hm when i was driving w/ mouse i used this setup:

mouse to steer
lmb: shift up
rmb: shift down
scroll button pressed: pit limiter
w: acclerate
s: brake
q: look left
e: look right
c: clutch
space: handbrake
arrow down: look back (never used it anyways)

been driving this almost 1 year and reached top almost down to wr on some combos
but now a got the wheel, its much more comfortable. since i was taking part in GTAL and had some endurance races, i sometimes suffered from major fingertip pain because of pressing w/s for accelerating/braking for hours.
This is my setup

LMB: Throttle
RMB: Brake
MMB: Handbrake
C: Clutch
Scroll up: Shift up
Scroll down: Shift down
A: Look Left
D: Look Right
R: Look Backwards

Well within 4.00% on most tracks, did many, many league races like even won a few.
