Need help with corners and slowing down for them
So my brother moved out and left his computer here and I found this gem of a Sim on it.

Im to used to forza though.

attached is a replay of me after like 20 tries but im still not satisfied.

can any one give me any advice?

on how to corner better and slow down better, I get all squirrely when slowing down for a corner most of the time.

may be a good idea to press '4' it gives you a racing line you can follow. also use the track more( that my problem too)
#3 - hda
1 - Never ever put the car in neutral and let it roll
2 - Like said in the previous post, use the track more so you can turn faster into corners
3 - Be gentle with the wheel, actually, with everything. Slow down before entering a corner and start accelerating while taking the corner, halfway through the corner you should be able to use the full throttle again

Maybe watch some people racing for a while and see how smooth they are

I never put it in neutral but I do coast the clutch a lot. should I not do that?

does yellow mean let off gas (push in clutch)? and red means brake obviously

I think your wheel is set up wrong.. you should be able to turn it smoothly, not in sudden swerves, as you were doing.

Some tips
  • Be more agressive/confident with the accelerator, there were several places where you really needed to just put your foot down.
  • You seem to be following the racing line religiously... don't. It's supposed to provide a rough idea of where to accelerate and brake, but usually, there are places you can easily take flat out, if the line is yellow.
  • Get a better setup... the brake force is set WAAAAAAY too high on your current setup, and it has a strange tendency to slide all over the place.

  • Don't start a hotlap from the start line. The lap you recorded there is basically an outlap, and will be much slower because of the time spent waiting on the grid, and the time spent picking up speed off the line.
  • Downshift as you are braking for corners. The engine braking slows you down quicker, and it saves you having to put it into the right gear when you come to corner exit
As far as the time is concerned... the world record is 00:45.75, so there's a fair bit of room for improvement.

I did a lap to show you what an average mediocre lap looks like (just got in the car with the above setup, 4% fuel and did a crap lap . You'd probably be better off looking at the world record replay, since I'm pretty bad

any way I can set it up to turn smoother? I've been trying to figure it out.

and I haven't messed with setups yet I was using the default one I think it was called hard track.

Tyre temp is f9, suspension damage is f10.

Anyone know how to make the steering.... well this is hard to explain.

less touchy with the stick. say make the maximum the steering wheel can turn in the game a lot less.
In the setup screen, set the wheel to 90° and if that is not enough reduce the lock.

I used to do that, e.g. race with 12° lock but if you spin (or are spun by another car), it may be hard to rejoin the traffic in a clean way, especially if you drive FWD and/or the track is narrow e.g. SO.

Much better, get rid of the pad ASAP
try changing the maximum lock in the steering section of your setup

Anymore tips on making it better with the controller?
Ensure it's calibrated/centred correctly, and be very smooth with the movement of the thumbsticks. Practice moving between centre, halfway and full on positions in each axis - go to Options > Display and show pedals, which puts the throttle, brake, clutch and handbrake levels in the bottom right corner if you haven't done it already - extremely useful as it allows you to see exactly what you are doing with the inputs without looking at the controller. And use auto clutch, it makes your life easier!
one thing I cant do is the auto clutch. lol

one problem i have is it never centers properly

It always goes a little to the left or right.

Its a brand new controller. anyway to fix this?
Try Options > Controlls > Axes > Remove Deadzone = Yes, or go into Control Panel > Game Controllers and set the deadzone from there.

As for tips, in Options > Misc you can try playing a bit with Analog Steer Smooth. But don't push it too high or it will be extremely hard to catch any spin, 0.6-0.7 is a good starting value.
How do I set the dead zone? i dont see an option to.

What you describe is not so much a deadzone problem as a calibration one.

DXTweak allows you to manually change the calibration parameters so that a particular axis is centered properly and uses the range of motion you desire.

and how would I do that?

I just figured "dead zoning" it would fix it. because it fixes it on the the little test screen in DXTweak. But since I'm running XP it doesn't help in game

anyways how do I setup calibration parameters to fix the problem.

Increasing the deadzone is a poor workaround for miscalibration. Ideally you'd have no deadzone at all.

Adjust the min, max, and center values in DXTweak2 for each axis so that you're using the full range of motion and all axes are centered properly.
