Offline java GPS software
Anyone got any suggestions?, I have tried a couple (namely tearing my hair out), one won't run from an external memory card on my phone, and the others I have tried, you have to jump through about a million hoops to get the map data.

So I am after a simple, heck, could even be paid for if its easy and it works, java GPS software that works with sideloaded (i.e. not streaming like GMaps) maps.

Help me out guys

Sorry, just needed a laugh, bad day so far. Can't help you otherwise. Unless you do go and buy an A-Z now
Dan..are you perhaps meaning a GPS to run on a mobile phone running windoze mobile?? Java is a PITA if you havent got other options...then again, maybe some genius has coded one to work with Symbian OS. You could try Google maps...I _THINK_ its a freebie (at least, it was pre-installed on my phone when I got it...)...or else: PM time
Its not a windows mobile, if it were, then I could use Garmin or Mcguidy, there are a number of java apps, but none of them are very simple to get up and running, you have to sideload the maps yourself, and it looks quite scary.
In case you are still looking for offline maps for Java phones, I could suggest GpsMid . You can load the maps onto your phones SD card and thus don't need any internet connection. It also allows you to search for roads and even offers a simple turn-by-turn navigation mode, also completely offline and free of any charge.

The maps it uses are from OpenStreetMap, the free wiki world map. A great project in which everyone collaborates to create the best world map, just like wikipedia is for encyclopedias.
