variable weather?
How hard is it to programm wether effects on LFS?

Some variable weather are interesting in LFS and i think its a fundamentally on Race Simulations. Can i / we hope for some Wether Effects ?
We've no idea how difficult it would be, however I'm guessing probably not that easy to do right. Water on the track means less friction, but only in the areas where the water would touch. Track temperature would fluctuate as well and the racing line would need to have an effect.
Currently there's no realtime lighting, so that would need to be added. Likewise, shaders would need to be sorted out to make the track look wet, meaning an update to the DirectX version LFS runs on.
We'd need new tyres to be added, particle effects to be generated for spray, windscreen wipers to keep the inside camera views clear.

So I'd guess it's probably quite a complex addition

okay, thats right and it makes sense.
In my opinion i think it is better to make the steps you've discribed and not the others which included new Cars (VW Scirocco). BTW it would be nicer to include new tracks instead new cars. But Wether is the next step that should be done
also has been suggested 350million times before , but at least its not a where is the scriocco thread

I've already suggested there should be variable weather and if rainy weather was available we would need to have windscreen wipers with intermittent slow continuous and fast continuous wipe.. that would definitely boost driving experience on the track.
At least wiper speed is pretty simple and could be one press = on, second press = high speed, third press = off. Like headlights. One press = on, second press = full beam, third press = off.
