You guys import used cars?
Quote from mrodgers :You guys import used cars?

Yep.

It's not that common and pretty much exclusive to Japanese cars since they drive on the same side of the road. There are a lot of MX-5 (Miata) imports in particular since they're identical to the UK model so there's no problem getting parts.

Their cars are often really well looked after (well, the ones that are imported are ), and many people are wary of imports so you usually get a much better deal than you would on an equivalent UK car.
When talking about mazda. Ive heard that mazda engines have the best accelerating thingy. Not that how fast i can go away from 0-100km/h. Example, the ms moment or something when u release the clutch, something like that. Is that true? I owned a Mazda 626 83' 2.0L and it was pretty nice for my first, had some dirty fun with it ... finally, it was taken and the crankshaft was blown out the engine. Or its named something else, idk.

looks like this, pic from google, so not the actual one, it is the came colour tho. http://www.meinekarre.de/cars/Mazda_MX-3_bretzn.jpg

It has the 1.8l V6 engine and is in fairly good condition, although it has been off the road for a while (about a year) as the current owner became unemployed after he had it on the road for about 2 years and never got round to tax and mot it again as he couldnt afford to.

It has a few minor scuffs and scratches in places, but nothing major. It also needs 4 new tyres, but my alloys on my current car will go on it anyway if i do buy it so that doesnt matter.

The main reason i am especially interested in it is because it is a japanese imported one that was brought over here in '99 and it has electric windows, power steering, and air conditioning.

He is sick of it being sat there on his drive and only wants £250 for it, and im thinking, bargain!

My mate has an mx-5 import that is only 1.6 and is very quick, so im thinking that a v6 1.8 in a similar sized car is gonna be very rapid indeed!

Does anyone know much about the mx-3 specifically. Any problems they are prone to suffer with in general, etc..

Thanks in advance!

If memory serves me right aren't you a mechanic? I do remember you talking of cars in other threads(I think)?

Anyway, have you tried Autodata for the obvious stuff, the technical bullitens from Autodata can give a good idea on what to watch out for with every make/model of car?

If not, I'll check the system in work Monday and mail the bullitens to you if you like
MX-3's used to be common around here 10-15 years ago, when imported cars were cheap. You can still see a few of them ocasionally, and if they last in our roads, they sure are well built.

We only got the 1,6 litre engine, and from what I heard they're good (read: ok performance with nice fuel consumption - for that time anyway). I find it pretty nice, although it has little space inside and the interior is horrible.

I've heard you guy's buy your cars with CHinese money!!!

*snap*
My dad has a 1996 Toyota Granvia (Toyota Powervan MPV thing) which was imported. It was a pain to find a company that would insure but was an absolute bargain at the time and runs brilliantly!
I think I remember reading about the japanese culture, and that the used car market is practically non-existent, has something to do with the cleaning and privacy culture in Japan. So to get rid of the old stuff they have to export it
