Seperate damage repair option
Imo it would be good to have a seperate option in F12 screen, one option is for body damage and the other will be for mechanical damage.

SO you can choose not to repair the body damage but you will be able to repair the mechanical damaga which saves time in the pitstop.
+1, especially when we have break-off wings and body panels
Very good suggestion. I would think it was covered already.

I fear though that the more option you put into this, the more time consuming and confusing it will get. If I'm racing an oval, I'd have NO problems at all with this. Racing on a roadcourse however, I've changed settings in the pit window and missed shifts, breaking points, apexes, and all others.

I like it. I also believe you guys are multitasking masters for being able to change those settings on the track!

Yeah i can change those settings, while i am on the straight or in the pit.
I tend to change them in the pitlane, just before stopping. I can keep the wheel straight(ish) and give the odd glance at the road to make sure some idiot isn't about to steam out of a pit garage into the side of me.
that is a really good idea

But body damage doesn't actually affect the driving of the car (except for rare circumstances where the front wing of the car is either on or under the ground) so I can't really see the usefulness of this. I could stand to be corrected.

When they add the break off wings this will have effect, because the aerodynamics off the car are different if you wont have wings anymore.

I see, so you're just thinking into the future. All hail Ginho from the future!!!
This is an idea that should have been put in the sim from the get go... Quite frankly, it's ignorant not to allow it. The exclusion of the ability to repair certain things, or change certain tires, limits the usage of many strategies that are used in real life and other simulations. This very simple change will give drivers more options when preparing for a race.

Indeed! I recall ToCA 2 Touring cars even gave the user the option to change fronts, rears, lefts and rights, or all four tyres. That was a great feature; and was 10 years ago.

umm ignorant? Well if this is the way you think then you would be waiting until 2015 or something to ever get to play LFS at all, because by this thinking it would need to be finished before we should be able to play it.

The idea will probably come to light.
I like this, but they should also add an option that would allow you to repair only parts of the car, like left-front or right-rear, something like that.

that's exactly the problem with this suggestion: after we can choose between body and mechanical parts, we want to have certain group of parts, single parts... ... and in the end individual screws.

i hope it will be implented in combination with some speech-recognition.

"pit options... replace outer right brake-pad."

that would take a TON of time in programming itself, inless, you keep it less exact like, fix left front, or right front, or body damage

I'm pretty sure it was a joke from Bandit, but...

What would be good would be if you were able to nominate a person (or group of people) who were able to remotely control your pit commands. You would speak to them through TS/Vent/Other and say "Add in 50% fuel, change the left side tyres, add 0.5 psi to the left rear tyre and fix the body damage" and they would be able to remotely set those options (perhaps using LFS Remote). That would be a closer emulation of the traditional race engineer role we have in real life.

that is an excelent idea, and i cant tell that it was a joke and how much of a difference can half a psi make, because i blatently set my psi, in a general area of where i think it should go
Half a PSI can make a gigantic difference depending on how you have your car set up and how it handles. I've only come to seen such a huge difference in such a small change when I was oval racing a few years back though.

I actually had just started racing when I had a friend of mine take over the keyboard for me. He pretty much turned into my crew chief. It was a hell of a help. To have a separate, live person as an actual crew chief would be greatly effective IMO. Who would be willing to sit along the sidelines and not want to drive though?

I signed up for an event that required a team of a driver and a spotter. Didn't actually get to do it, but I heard the live spotters were a help.

I don't see how we could get any of this into ANY sim though. It seems we could only get this by combining individual interest as well as other programs.
Quote from rsnake53 :Who would be willing to sit along the sidelines and not want to drive though?

In Masters of Endurance most of the teams who compete will have one person (sometimes two people if they have a car in each class) who acts solely as a team manager to co-ordinate who should be in the car at what time and to communicate with the race officials.
i am sure that at least one post from every thread in this section says this, so here we go...

*clears throat*

i have to say, this is the best idea for a improvement i have yet to see!
Which one? Mine or his?
Not sure about the idea in OP...

But option to disable damage repair for reset would be very good - sometimes you need reset only to get back on track with MRT, which has no rev gear.

Imo not, just dont get off track with mrt.
Quote from G!NhO :Imo not, just dont get off track with mrt.

That's hard when racing with AI's at South City.
Plus that adss unrealisticness to have multiple reset options.
