Purely speculation and as Scawen has said may or may not be included in the game but what is your thoughs on breakable wings?

Do you think it will effect downforce levels if broken or missing? Or purely for looks and realism?

I'm not sure how downforce is calculated now but I'm guessing this could be improved on a lot.

Also do you think the wings would be able to stay on the ground and cause a puncture for example or just dissapear a few seconds later?

I'm fairly sure that breakable wings are one of the things that Scawen has said will be part of S2. And it will probably be quite a job in itself.

To work properly, the breakable wings would need to affect downforce levels, and also have their own physics so that they can bounce around the track and into the path of other cars correctly.

The pieces would probably disappear after a short time like stray tyres and cones now (invisible marshalls I suppose). This could happen when there are no other cars in the vicinity.

But if wings can come off, then the models of the cars would need to be updated with whatever is underneath. This could mean a complete remake of all the cars if the parts that can fall off were not limited to wings, but also mirrors/bumpers etc.

Good response, ok I can see it would be a huge task to add something like breakable wings which although a nice addition, is time probably best spent on more important things.

Are there any other things like breakable wings that Scawen has hinted he would like to implement at some point?

Reason I'm asking is because we know we will have a patch in 2009. We also know the devs are working on things that we don't know about.
Nah...lets think that about later IMO

They're planning to finish ad release Westhill updates and update the rest of the car interiours.

Does that mean improve the graphics? Or different layouts?

Thankyou, that was an interesting post by Scawen (probably the last of its kind) and has given me an indication as to what we might or might not receive this year. Westhill updates still intrests me as to what that could mean. I wonder if he means "make-over" like blackhill got a while ago as I can't see any obvious alternate routes for different layouts.

Scawen said that he can do a basic aero model based on the actual shape (state) of the car... However far he has progressed with that and if it's even featured in the near future we can only speculate...

Anyway, as most other physical objects on the track I suspect broken off parts won't stay around for long - I'm guessing they'll be removed as fast as cones or tyres are reset...
This is not only "addition", it's something almost 100% new.
May not come soon, but really look forward it. The collision physics now is not so good.

LOVE IT !!
But ... will that system eat up my CPU ?

Yeah. You will have to buy a new CPU each time you play LFS. But LFS doesn't eat PC components so far, so don't worry.
