Manual clutch, but i can shift without it
Can anyone help me with the following problem? I have set LFS to manual cluth and H-shifter. To shift car from N to 1st. gear i need to press clutch, but then it becomes wierd... If i put my shifter into second gear, it will automaticaly shift to the second gear at exactly 4, 4.5k RPM, without me pressing the clutch. I can do whatever i want, but it wont shift without clutch, but if rev. it, it will shift to the next gear if shifter is in it, on 4, 4.5k RPM, without me pressing the clutch. I hope that you understand the problem, it's kinda hard to explain it. What is pissing me off, is that if it's set to manual, i want it to be manual and not automatic in few revs. only.

Wheel - G25. And clutchs axis and stuff are correct, i recalibrated it and stuff, but it's still the same.
That isn't a problem, it's a feature.. almost..

It's called powershifting, you can do it in a real car, if the RPM are matched right you can shift without using the clutch when the dog teeth line up.

Unfortunately because of limitations of game controllers there is no feedback, if you do it on a real, if you don't have the RPM matched up then you won't be able to put it in gear (and if you do manage to you will do a ton of damage that won't be worth it)
Plus it puts a lot of stress on the transmission in a real car so it isn't worth it.
Well with most modern cars you don't even have to match revs that exactly, the synchros help out quite a bit, but suffer from it. In a real car, you couldn't move the stick in position and wait for it to engage the gear at the right speed, but other than that, this is correct behaviour.
Thinking about the differences between a G25 shifter and real car gearbox, got me thinking it could be possible to make a shifter with a gate-lock.

The gate-lock, simply a moving peice of metal, attached to a spring, held or not by a solenoid, that locks the stick in whatever gear its in (by closing the exit to the slot its in) and only allows it out, if the clutch is fully depressed or the gas pedal is released, however the operation of not allowing it to move from neutral into a gear slot until revs are matched, becomes a little more difficult, needing feedback from the sim (rpm & speed), but could be somewhat programmable using the gas pedal position, I doubt the actual G25 shifter could be easly modded, but a stand alone replacement could be produced.

The G25s shifter changes from H to sequential with a similar yet simpler gate-lock system.

it would add a fair amount of gearstick feedback, just being able to apply pressure to the stick and then feel it "let go" as you come off the gas would be super

@sparky, sounds like a good idea, would add a lot of electrical components etc. might raise the price but, at something like that I'm wondering if it could put up with excessive wear and tear? Sounds like a good idea to me though.

Yes durability would be a concern, something like 2 or 3mm steel plate for the gate and lock with a short stick (like the original) would come in heavy, more of a concern for me would be the additional noise as the gate would have to slide back and forward (or side to side) each time you lift or clutch

If I had more free time, I would be able to attempt to make a prototype, thats of course after I adress about 5 other ideas I've had for making things in the last couple of years

I do like the idea tho, not sure if there is a market or not as the shifter is pretty good as standard.

Actually that's a great idea, I've already got an idea that could work, relatively cheap and reliable. I'll post back with something to show
LOL, here I am working on a prototype for a simplified shifter that feels realistic, and you people want one that has MORE moving parts
Make a new thread about it morpha, I guess in hardware stuff, I want to add on to the topic too .. but here isn't the place

You're right, will do.
