AWD touring cars
What AWD touring car models do you know? When AWD was banned for touring cars?
The Audi A4 in the BTCC before it got banned?
#3 - JJ72
yeah the A4, it ran until the last ETCC season I believe.
#4 - amp88
Audi 90 Quattro IMSA/GTO, Opel Calibra DTM, Super GT Subaru Impreza, the Nissan Skylines that ran in the Australian Supercar championship, can't remember more atm

I wouldn't call them touring cars.
well the dtm car is a touring car

clue in the name

The Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM, German Touring Car Masters)
#9 - JJ72
touring car in name, but more prototype in essence to be honest.

DTM cars have almost nothing in common with their road going counterparts.
I would love to see a DTM car made road legal

Only the roof is exactly like the street versions (it's in the rules, it has to be like that).

Btw.. why are 4wd touringcars banned? (i always wondered why they don't use awd cars in series like the wtcc)
#13 - JJ72
because they dominated.(if unrestricted by the extra ballast.
Hm.. why didn't i think of that bit obvious

Don't mind me.. continue
The GT300 Subaru Impreza was 4WD (It nearly beat all the GT500 machinery in the rain once lul)

There's the Mercedes CLK AMG DTM and the Opel Astra OPC DTM wich are both road legal... they are having something like 350bph using a bodywork wich looks similar to the DTM's body work and are quier Porsche-Killers on the road. But those where only produced when the new DTM was getting known here in Germany... However one of the Sheikh bought one of the Mercedes DTM cars along with a Mercedes CLK LeMans and built himself a private road to drive them

To be serious I don't know about it I hardly remember anything about the old DTM, cause I was too young, and though I am interested in the old DTM's races nowadays, I don't care about the cars.

the 190 E evos had about 220hp, compared to the 390ish hp for the DTM spec car back then.
Audi V8
Back on subject.
Audi 4wd was also banned from ATTC or "supertourers" in Australia.

As far as other forms of racing, F1 tried 4wd but i think it was too heavy, indy cars/cart or whatever its called now also tried.

found a wiki on the f1 cars http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four-wheel_drive_in_Formula_One
