they are bringing them back... actually the 80s and 90s DTM/ITC cars plus the Supertouring Cars of STW (technically the mid-90s BTCC cars would also be allowed to compete), plus one-make-cup cars are allowed in a new series to compete. In the Cup and Touringcar Trophy by Hankook.
The proposed race carlendar (not provisional, as the series still needs to be confirmed by a governing body of Motorsports)

Nürburgring Nordschleife (Germany)
Oschersleben (Germany)
Spa – Francorchamps (Belgium)
Zolder (Belgium)
cars (so far) would be:
BMW 635 Csi
BMW (STW)
Ford Focus ST
Mercedes Benz 190 2,5 16 V Evo I
Mercedes Benz 190 2,5 16 V Evo II
Opel Omega (Ex-DTM)
Porsche 944 turbo Cup
Porsche 964 Cup
Porsche Italian Ladies Boxter Cup

The fact is the cars handle too good and have too much aero, if they made them a simple design with basic gearboxes and suspentions for example with close to the production car levels of aerodynamics the series would be alot more intresting to watch.
DTM is like LMS style Touring cars, Super GT has the same problem there too and thats why V8 Supercars works soo much better in the scheme of things.
