My question
When you do Online races is it automatgear or manuel or is there some other general setup I should be aware of.

You can choose if you're driving auto or manual gear.

Yes, you can choose manual or auto BUT some servers won't actually allow you to use an auto gearbox. If you try to join the race with an auto gearbox you could be kicked back into the spectator mode and told you need to use a manual gearbox.

On the subject of auto vs manual in LFS the manual gearbox is definitely the way to go. It's not that difficult to learn and once you do learn how to use a manual gearbox not only will you be a faster driver but you will be more in control of your car. Some of the cars in LFS (particularly the single seaters) can be very difficult to drive with an automatic gearbox because LFS can make downshifts in the middle of corners which can cause compressing locking of the rear wheels and lead to spins or slides which could have been avoided by using a manual gearbox.
