The most important facts:

• the race starts with a pace lap. it is not allowed to overtake in this lap
  
• the pace car drives at the front setting the pace (max 130. kmh / 81 mph)
  
• you can do waving (warming up your tyres) but be very careful doing it
  
• if you spin around, let ALL cars pass through and DONT go back to your position, you have to start from back end
  
• if you do not follow this rule you will be punished
  
• when the pace car enters pit lane there will be shown a GREEN FLAG message. the leader may accelerate, but overtaking is still forbidden until your car crosses the finish line and begins the second lap.
  
• only when beginning lap 2 you may overtake your competitors.
  

When practising the starting procedure it was striking that many people leave no space to other cars or even overtake in the pace lap. you should remember that the race lasts 16 hours. you dont need to ram cars in front of you, there are ~ 15 hours and 57 minutes left when starting lap 2. When you cause a crash it will cost you much more time than just leaving enough space to the guy in front. drive smart in the pace lap, for example when closing in to corners be aware that there might be tailback because 27 cars per server have to pass corners at lower speed. most dangerous section is the hairpin shortly before the last split time. brake early, dont brake sudden and hard, brake smoothly and careful, watch the cars in front, drive smart.
