Quote from wsinda :So many things are bad for you, and still legal: ... rock climbing

Hey, that's not bad for you, it's quite good for you in fact. It's the falling that isn't so good...

Technically falling is ok as well....its the sudden impact on the rocks which is going to get you (or into the shark infested pool if you are doing extreme rock climbing)
On another point, 99% of the marijuana I personally consume is eaten, not smoked. I wonder what this does to BlueFlame et al's "it's bad for you" argument?

edit: note that I haven't read the last 6 pages or so, so apologies if this has been covered.

wouldn't you have to eat a lot (and i really mean a lot), to get any of it's effects?

No.

You cook the buds in butter, which absorbs the THC, and then use the butter to make various baked goods (brownies, fudge, etc). I usually eat a square of fudge about 1/2 by 1/2 inch and get a decent buzz on. It differs from smoking in that it tends to be a "mellower" high, and it takes a lot longer to kick in (especially if you've eaten recently). Something like 1-3 hours depending on your metabolism.
Side note: California is preparing for a vote on Proposition 19, which would result in:

Quote :* Persons over the age of 21 may possess up to one ounce of marijuana for personal consumption.
* May use marijuana in a non-public place such as a residence or a public establishment licensed for on site marijuana consumption.
* May grow marijuana at a private residence in a space of up to 25 square feet for personal use.

but you couldn't do that with a few grams could you? i always thought of making brownies once, but the idea of using an entire ounce for brownies didn't sit well.

Doesn't do any good until it's federal.
It does given that the Federal agents have been given orders not to make nonsense arrests that contradict local laws. And it's an important step, generally speaking.

It does take a decent amount, but it can be done with shake rather than prime buds, and at least with fudge you can make a large batch, throw it in the freezer, and enjoy the fruit for months to come.

Just because they were told to doesn't mean that they are. I haven't heard of any recently, but even after Obama said to stop prosecuting people for it, there were still DEA raids on dispensaries and private growers (for legal, personal consumption).
Quote from bunder9999 : stuff about the feds

But federal agents aren't all that interested in what one person does... they have bigger fish to fry. Like dispensaries, that sell to many people. Or big time operations. If I lived in California and smoked pot, I would probably take that risk.

And it does matter what California does, where California goes, so goes about half the nation, eventually. When California passes some ground-breaking new legislation, you can expect to see similar bills popping up around the country for vote.

What are the feds going to do? overrule more half the country (roughly, hypothetically)? That would not be popular with the voting public. I think if this bill is adopted by more than a few states, the feds will have choice but to bow to popular opinion for the votes. Can you honestly see Obama and the Democrats in Congress alienating all the liberal states (that would most likely follow Cali's lead), which is the main source of their votes? If it was Texas or Georgia, it might be a different story entirely. But it would probably never be Texas or Georgia. So then assuming that the Dems won't alienate California (really bad idea), now is the time to strike IMO. If there are no proveable bad characteristics, the next president won't have much of a case to crack down on the laws when he takes office, even if he would normally be so inclined.

granted if I understand it right, this bill would only be the first tiny step to legalization, but it is a major one, and if it passes, I can see it setting up further steps quite nicely.

You can compromise between smoking and eating by turning into a drink (i.e. Green Dragon, mixed with something).
