Due to water ingress I was down to two or three cylinders. Because of pumping losses, you lose more than 25% power per cylinder (the remaining cylinders still have to move the oil and overcome the friction of the non-working cylinders), so I was down to between 90 and 130hp for most of the race, compared to nearly-but-not-quite 200.
And with that little power it's almost impossible to spin!!! Several others who were beating me did spin off, so I was able to limp home third on the track and 1st in class. I was beaten by two spaceframe cars that were much softer and compliant (an advantage in the wet, as I used to do quite well in the wet in my old 1988 f3 car which was soggy in comparison).
I am currently uploading a video to Vimeo. Not of the wet race (yet), but of my pole position qualifying lap that morning. I'm quite proud of it, although I clearly lost a few tenths in some places.
Okay, it's uploaded. Estimated 10 minutes to finish conversion -
