Hi All,

Here is the low down of my problem. We have the ford website that requires 1 proxy server, and we have a Chrysler website that require's a different proxy server setting.

I got around this, but setting IE for one, then created a shortcut to Firefox and setting Firefox to the other one. Now problem is, on Chrysler website, they have pull down menus, and these are not working for Firefox, but work fine in IE.

Any idea's where I can start looking please, as I am a total firefox noobie

Its probably the fact that they're using some IE specific code, rather than a firefox bug.

A few things to check;
1. That javascript is enabled (Tools > Options > Content tab)
2. Try a newer version of firefox, 1.5.0.2 is out

I doubt its a rendering bug tbh, and that the menu's either need some obscure IE hack to get them working, or use ActiveX, or similar. As Kev says though, is there any way we can see the offending websites, or are they internal?

One final thought, if you're feeling really nerdy, a greasemonkey script might help, but that requires intimate knowledge of the site, etc.

Yer sorry chaps, to access the site, you need to be here onsite as you have to access it through a specific IP range.

I had the feeling that the site isn't coded for Firefox extenstions, as when I questioned Chrysler, they said why are you using firefox, i explaint our situation with ford also, and they said, oh well, we don't support firefox, so there

Theres a firefox extension called IETab.

It uses bits from your existing IE install to display the pages in Firefox, windoze update site even works.

General advice, Firefox 1.5 can be memory greed, with 3.0 this problem was solved, however 3.0 is not quite yet ready, comes around Q1 2007, but there is bleeding edge alpha available.

Question, would your problem get solved if you use Ford site with Firefox and Chrysler site with IE ?

Oh yes, quite oldfashioned and little knownledge in those companies, I'm wondering why on earth someone is using IE, it is like having sex with prostitute without condom

I've had a thought, I've never tried this, so you might want to give it a go.

If you use ISA server, then configure up a PC without the ISA client enabled to use the Chrysler Proxy. Next, setup the ISA client to listen to the Ford ISA server, which should automagically configure up IE to use the Ford proxies. In theory, just enabling and disabling the ISA client should allow you to switch between.

If you're not running ISA (probably not), then my original suggestion of setting up your own gateway proxy box to listen to both proxies and do some clever forwarding and general munging still holds

p.s. IEtab is a little crash-happy

Just thought I would give you an update on this little problem. Well the problem was actually me, I was looking way to deep into this. I have fixed the problem by finding out all the IP Address calls to the Chrysler websites and then adding these as a perminant route to the routing table of the PC's pointing these IP address's to the Chrysler router.

I done the same for email server, and other onsite systems including Ford Websites ( pointing these to the Ford Router ). Turned off Proxy settings in IE, and let the router's do the work, and its all gravy baby.
