One may say: Oh noes, he and his ideas, the others may say sounds interesting, and what a third party may think, I don't know.... Anyways, I had an idea about a League, conceptly based on the different tournaments as you might now them from other sports, like football or handball or ice hockey.
Any team can enter up to 4 squads, with the limitation that a driver cannot start for a different squad of the same team. If a driver changes teams, this must be announced and results in this driver not being allowed to drive for the following match day, to prevent any misuse of this. Apart of this there is no limitation in nominating drivers for a squad.
The Qualifying Round is not obligatory. Three drivers of one squad drive a hotlap on an announced combo. The combined hotlap time of those three drivers will be the official qualifying time. The sense behind it is to get the teams into different pools. The best teams are directly put into the first spot of the groups. The further group spots are drawn within those pools, with the exception that two squads of one team cannot be in the same group.
In the group stage every squad drives against all other squads. The groups shall be in size of four to six squads, which makes at least three, at most five matches.
A match consists of two even parts. Two races of 20 minutes. For every squad there are 4 drivers are racing. In race 1 the one team starts infront. in race 2 the other team starts infront. The top 4 finishers score 4-3-2-1 pts for their team. Should both teams end up with scoring the same amount of points after both races, there shall be an overtime of two races half the distance. Should this end up with a draw a 10 minute qualifying session will decide over the winner: The team with the times of the fastest three drivers of each squad combined will decide.
During the groupstage a team winning a match in regular time gets 3 points, winning a match in overtime gets 2 points, loosing a match in overtime 1 point and loosing a match in regular time 0 points. The best teams of the first groupstage advance to the second. The best four teams of the second group stage advance to the final four.
The competing squads can schedule their matches on their own. The squads have to inform the administration at least 48h prior to the match. The administration sends a referee to the match. The only date which is fix, is the date of the final four. One team has to host the match. This team gets also the rights to set up a stream. Such steam must also be announced with the fixture.
The final structure of this will be determined by the number of teams entering this, and by further input. This is just an idea and not a cup to this date... I've attatched two (perfect" tournament trees. Just to give you an impression.
