I agree that we/solidiers canot hide behind the statement "I was just following orders", I think you (as solider) have to use common sence.
At least for me, if I had gone to a war, and then come up to a situation where the orders were to kill someone (who I would though were inocent), I would probally end up disobey the orders, whatever the cost is. This however could put up me/the others in a dangerous situation, so then I might have to reconsider and follow that order anyway. What I try to say is that I don't think everything is black and white when it comes to soliders and war, there are so many factors and thoughts / evaluations you have to count in for.
the simple fact is that soldiers are ultimately stupid enough to give up on their free will in favour of "just following orders" for a complex that is ultimately designed to kill people who by some quirk of nature were born outside of a line thats been arbitrarily drawn in the sand
Well, I think it's wrong beliving every person in the military is the same - killing machines without thoughts. Also you people seem to fail seeing the good things military does for it's own country
The US is currently in at least 6 overseas wars, and that's not including special ops which at last count was about 70.
The fact that another part of the US Govt is usually heavily involved in helping the other side is also a fact that hasn't escaped general notice. ( Iraq, Afghanistan, etc )
Here, this is called treason but clearly the US has a different point of view.
If they stayed in their own country I think the rest of the world may not be so critical.
If your in an illegal war then all orders must be illegal.
Try reading the Nuremburg declaration, which was drafted by the then US Solicitor General.
im going to ignore all you people bashing the military. and guess what. im flying to Kabul right now. from what i know im going to just stand guard in an important Army outpost that they need Marines to guard somewhere in downtown Kabul. heavy al quieda presence there. but i have a trusty M4A1. and i managed to get my hands on a Desert Eagle with a scope attachment. keep that along with the standard issue USP .45 sidearm. arriving in about an hour. intel suggests that the terrorists are planning an attack on the outpost around 2pm tomorrow. if i dont post a reply by Tuesday night, im either seriously wounded or dead. but my platoon is full of tough honorable guys. I feel safe with them on my side.
Even the Afghani govt that you set up wants you out and is disgusted with your ( and I'm ashamed to say, our ) behaviour in THEIR country.
Welcome to the New World Order and their child soldiers.
If you want a more experienced US point of view, try this....
October 1, 2011 - TAMPA, FL - The Occupy Wall Street movement may have just received an unexpected surprise – United States Army and Marine troops are reportedly on their way to various protest locations to support the movement and to protect the protesters.
Army serviceman Ward Reilly posted the following on Facebook:
“I'm heading up there tonight in my dress blues. So far, 15 of my fellow marine buddies are meeting me there, also in Uniform.
I want to send the following message to Wall St and Congress:
I didn't fight for Wall St. I fought for America. Now it's Congress' turn.
My true hope, though, is that we Veterans can act as first line of defense between the police and the protester. If they want to get to some protesters so they can mace them, they will have to get through the ****ing Marine Corps first. Let's see a cop mace a bunch of decorated war vets. http://www.in5d.com/occupy-wal ... otect-the-protestors.html
Lol, if I were to post stuff like 'terrorists plan to attack tomorrow at 2 o'clock' I would've ended in military prison the same day.
Around here we call it 'youngdead'. If he survives the next 2-3 years, I'd love to hear his thoughts then. He won't be a youngdead anymore, as long he's not just-dead.
Turns out we didnt get attacked. i got transferred to a checkpoint at the entrance of the US base there. They installed a fresh tougher batch of marines at the outpost earlier today. Today im just going to try and enjoy whatever American amenities i have left. Sitting back with a root beer and trying to catch Rocko's Modern Life on the TV they have. time for us to go to bed. night guys coming out.
For anyone who knows tui adverts in NZ, it's on utube.
Fighting insurgents - yeah right.
Occams razor ??????
Note to mod's - I'd be interested in knowing where he's posting from please.
See if it's b or c cus with his security breaches he should be shot if it's legit.
I don't understand how your boot camp was only 8 weeks and then you were shipped out directly after. I thought there were more programs to go through after boot camp, and boot camp for the USMC is 13 weeks long. Some things don't add up to me...
