Just read the thread on wanting images in sigs and many lamenting the losss of avatars for the present lets have a polll

so you read the thread, and you want to discuss it. So to do that you make another thread instead of using the other? looking at the thread you see most people dont want images in sigs, and that if their is that you can disable them..so i doubt it on this forum

well thought it needed a poll really so all can make a final decision, the only way i know to make a poll is to start a new thread, if you dont want it don't vote

Hum. Allow avatars and fancy sigs and give the option to not display them. most BBSs allow this.

Personally, I'd like avatars to be back on. They were turned off due to performance issues when the patch was released... but I am sure it could be fine now.

No crazy signatures now... what we have now is fine, and not as heavy as [img] tags enabled.

Avatars yes, [IMG] sigs no.

I'd really like my avatar back, it really helped you to "know" people. Not exactly putting a face to a name, but close.

I personally hate images in sigs with a passion, and would never turn them on.

They're kinda pointless and do use up quite a bit of bandwidth. I'd prefer faster loading times than fancy looking avatars/sigs.

No to both avatars and sigs. All they do is clutter the view and eat resources. The way it is now is very neat and easy to read. Plus I don't want this place becoming as slow as rscnet again.

I'd like to see avatars back but perhaps a reduction in the maximum avatar size would be appropriate with regard to load times and visual appeal. Would 80x80 pixels be ok? Wouldn't harm load times too much, wouldn't look too cluttered...

I don't see images in sigs necessary, but saying that they take too much bandwidth is exaggerating. Let's say a sig takes 50kB max, so let's say 50 sigs = 2.44 megabytes and once a sig has loaded it's in the cache. It's not like we're on a 28.8 modem here for crying out loud.

But no, I don't see signature images necessary. Just bring back the avatars, please. It helps recognizing people with a glance.

You alll thing only on the client side that it might slowdonw things but what about the server side.
It mean more bandwith,more request to server.I am sure we all want rather fast forum then the slower one with avatart and signature images.

I would like to have it as well but I prefer current fast forum.

Matrixi, a lot of people are still on dial up. It would take approx 10 mins to download 50 sigs in your example.

I'm strongly against image sigs, for a) bandwidth reasons, b) they waste space and c) they tend to give forums a very cluttered look. But I think avatars are good - they take up space that is a lot of the time otherwise wasted, they tend to fit in okay, and more importantly you can see how posted the message your reading without having to make a point to.

I do miss the avatars. They are nice little personal identifiers and make it quite easy to recognise the participants in thread at a glance.

Definite no to images in sigs though, they always look crap.

avatar were they have been before would be nice.

Signatures would of course be hosted by the person using it, not by the forum.

But as I said, I don't see them necessary.

You can turn them off anyways (you could already do that when we still had them)

Dont see the point to be honest, its a forum, I come here to read and reply, pictures dont mean much to me (here).

I would like to have them, but the vic's apache and hoster wont :P
