Depends how you have it set, you can set it to only update via local cars or all cars in which case the line is affected by every racer, not just you.

It's in the option somewhere.

i found if i pull too late off a curb my car follows it round, usually causing me to spin out ;D

Besides, your 'mystery' has been solved. So no point in talking about it over and over again. There already has been suggestions for more grip on the racing line, aswell as less grip off the groove from marbles and stuff
