Quote from Jakg :24 Gb Windows (and some apps) (15 Gb free)

4 Gb Swap (for the pagefile)

First of all, unless you have 2GB of RAM, that much swap will slow down your system.
Second, I hope you keep them on different HDD's to get most speed out of it (with the best solution having the swap on a HDD you rarely use, I keep mine on a 120GB which I just store random videos and such on).

Windows on a 20GB partition on the 300GB.
280GB for games, movies, documents, etc etc.
120GB which holds the above partition, a few backup files, and a HDD recovery tool incase I delete something by mistake.

swap file is set to 3 Gb, the windows and apps are on 1 HDD, the rest on another, I know it probably provides very little performance boost, but it does neaten things up!

6 Partitions

That's too many. I find it better to have one partition for Windows and another for other stuff. And keep stuff organized with folders not with partitions.

How on earth was a 600w psu not powerfull enough? I dont see anything especially power hungry in there. Maybe the raptors, I dont know

Dual 6600GT's?
Quote from Jakg :Dual 6600GT's?

Yeah I think the GT's with the drives ate up too much power. Funny thing was that I could reformat, run the computer for a week or so then it would start acting funny for the next week and by the end of the second week it would refuse to load windows.

I decided to install PC probe and noticed that my Vcore was bouncing around something like 10%. So I bought a very nice 700 instead of the run of the line 600 which was the only thing I could get my hands on when my 680 was hit by lightnining. It's running pefectly fine now =)

know what you mean - my 6600's eat power!

dude, a branded 400W PSU could supply enough power for that rig. i have a 450W enermax for A64@2,9ghz,x800gto, 5 fans, 7 hdds atm, and a waterpump running from psu. it seems those ocz psu's r a piece of...
Hehe they are virtually the best out on the market from the reviews I read, the 600 watt was a regular PSU from best buy.

Then you are very lucky to gbe running 450 watts. My Motherboard manual says I require at least 550 to be able to make the system run thats not including my dual card setup =)
ur 6600GT's wouldnt take that much power dude, i'm running a 7950GX2 off a 650W PSU and my card would use more power then ur 2.
600W psu isn’t small…
Simply it was defective… or totally crap…
AMD Athlon 2000+ XP
1.5 GB of Kingston 2700
MSI KT3V
ATI 9800 Pro
onboard sound (I know)
30 GB Maxtor 7200 RPM drive
Enermax NoiseTaker 2 420 watt

Not the best system but it has paid off nicely. Bought most of these parts almost 3 years ago. I think it is time for an upgrade .
