They're both the same card with a different third party cooler. Both are crap (loud) if you ask me, I suggested the Asus DirectCU model above which is quiet, but I guess you ignored it.
I would be careful with the ASUS cards, I just had the pleasure of needing to send one back for RMA and was waiting 6 weeks for the replacement. The guy in the shop also told me that the usual 14 day money back rule doesn't seem to apply to ASUS (only 7 days according to him), not even sure if that is legal in most countries.
I've been reading a lot of good things about the EVGA warranty but decided against one of their cards because of good reviews for both the Gigabyte and ASUS coolers.
edit: I got a brand new card back today, no more issues, still took a long time though.
I upgraded from 5750 to 6850 but now my cpu is bottlenecking me . Going to get a whole new comp after summer I guess. My Asus Radeon HD only cost me like 60€ (2nd hand) and is good enough for me for now.
I going to jump on this thread, as I am now in the same position. Managed to sell my Xbox ( old ) today.
On other thread's, people have mentioned the GTX range, but nobody has suggested a AMD Rad yet, and just wondering why ?
I have these, what's your thoughts. Oh I forgot to add, I need at least one VGA connector or dual DVI as all three monitors I have are VGA only so will need to use a convertor.
I'd avoid the 750, but the 750Ti is a decent card.
Right now is a bad time to buy AMD because all the bitcoin miners are snatching them up, driving prices up. AMD doesn't neuter double-precision compute to the same extent NVIDIA does, so they're better for bitcoin mining.
"Cryptocoin Mania has resulted in virtually every high-end AMD card being snatched up for mining. And with cryptocoin prices having risen to new levels in the last few months, the value of these cards as miners has exceeded their value as video cards, resulting in the demand spike. With video card prices now being almost unilaterally dictated by mining returns and electricity costs, the 280 series and 290 series are all running roughly $100 over MSRP." --AnandTech, http://anandtech.com/show/7703 ... buyers-guide-january-2014
Oh right, thanks for that Forbin. So the 750Ti would get me by for say 2yrs at the least. Thats when I will have to do a major upgrade and will be in a better position to do it.
Next 2 months, I have Boiler to change ( home boiler ) daughters 16th, Wife's car need major service ( new tyres and Oil Sump leak ) so this is why I just need to keep it to a Min at the moment..
It really depends what you want to play, at what resolution, and whether you can tolerate using less than maximum quality settings. Look up some reviews for benchmark results to show you how it fares in various apps. AnandTech is a good source.
Well Fordin, to be honest, I would be looking to play AC for starters, as this is really the sole reason behind my upgrade and poss RF2...incase S3 doesn't materialize. ATM I play LFS with a 4000x980 resolution, triple monitors, and get around 30-35fps all maxed out, except for AA ( as SoftTH doesn't support AA) At the moment, I tried to run the AC Tech Demo, and I get 9-12fps single screen.
I can suffer the Max graphics thing, as my eyes are old anyway, so would prefer to see more (in View) than see more "in bling" which at my age, I would not notice anyway LOL
According to that website you posted earlier, the Rad R7 260x was a good buy which I found pretty cheap here:
I don't know why you'd buy a 260x for that price when the 750Ti is just as much money, just as fast (if not faster), runs cooler, and uses less power. Unless you really need DisplayPort and/or EyeFinity.
AMD cards are pretty good bang for buck, but they also consume tons more power and run hotter than Nvidia cards which results in more noise and higher temperatures so prepare to have a beefy power supply that can feed in the watts. I don't personally like their drivers and software either.
Issue 1: Sell your daughter, divorce the wife, ignore the boiler.......
Issue 2: The 660 is the best card for the future, if you can save up for a while, it won't need replacing for a number of years. If you need to justify the expense, point out that it will save money in the longer term. These are good cards and will be so for several years into the future.
Basically all I want is a card that will run AC with semi decent playable frame rates, if possible triple screen, and just to get me by for 1-2years. I am not worried about spending money in 2yrs, as CPU / motherboard etc etc will need upgrading by then so will just do a job lot, build my own, and hand this down to step son, then he can suffer LOL
I know it doesn't seem to make sense, but I would like, actually I can, spend little now, and spend more later on. I have this limited budget, so If I don't spend it, the wife will fill her wardrobe up with clothes she doesn't wear....get my drift
Thanks for all you help, I know, I am never an easy task, but please give me something to pin point for AC and RF2 as in playable terms
