AFAIK you can, it just acts like a joystick - as long as there is a little joystick on it. Dunno about oldskool gamepads, though.

Old digital gamepads should work in wheel/joystick mode, only you'll be using buttons for steering instead of an axis (i.e. will suck, just like kb).

if the gamepad can use in the wheel mode(?), do i need to rebind all the buttons? if yes...can somebody help me to set to something like GT4 control in PS2 : )? (actually i don't know some words in the control menu...)
