I notice there are several threads appearing in various sections, but just a title, no post written at all, as such there is no way to report it (that I've seen) without someone replying to the empty thread and reporting their own post

There is a small dark blue triangle with exclamation mark in it just beside post time.

hmm would you be so kind as to give an url of a forum section, or make a screenie of one such situation?
I think what you're seeing are either remnants of removed threads, or it's related to this auto-hide feature for obvious spam (and something might not be functioning properly).

Two screen shots attached, first one shows the spam threads in new posts, second is when you open one of the links. The threads seem active as I can still reply to them.
