V8 Racing League 2020 - information

After 5 years of V8 Racing League existance there have been 5 different series champions,5 different teams champions while the dominating 4 times nations champions were enthroned in the previous season - there is a lot of intrigue before the start of 6th season of the league using the fastest aids free car of LFS - Formula V8. Will there be a 1st ever repeated champion in any of Race Green Events yearly leagues or will there be a new driver who steps up and writes his name in league history with golden letters? Which team will take over the lead this season? Will Finland be able to regain the lost nations cup or will Poland be able to defend it? These are questions that will be answered during next 2 months on 5 different racing locations at this racing simulator.

League race format is quite simple and hasn't been changed - every round features 20 minutes free track qualifying and race, where lapcount is set to minimum to exceed 200 kilometers. League will offer pure racing without any strategies as there will be no mandatory pitstops, neither "hardcore simulation" will be enforced to keep things simple - everyone can telepit in qualifying, also Safety/Pace car will not be used.

The schedule of the 6th season has some changes once again,it will feature 5 rounds,2 of those have been in every season, one of them left 1 season off,one returns and one is brand new. The usual season final round now will open the season - VERL Westhill GP will feature the longest circuit of the season - Westhill's National configuration. A configuration never used before in any RGE events races will be run in 2nd round - Rockingham V8 200 will be run in Rockingham Sportscar configuration, which will bypass the useless 1st chicane in VERL's version. The season middle round Aston Classic Challenge will feature a very classic short configuration of Aston Club. South City 200 will return to Chicane Route configuration, this year run in reversed direction. But season finale will take place at the Caribbean island of Jamaica, using Fern Bay's Gold configuration - this will be first ever VERL race at Fern Bay!

Series schedule:
20.09. Round 1 - VERL Westhill Grand Prix (WE National, 46 laps)
27.09. Round 2 - Rockingham V8 200 (RO Sportscar w/o Chicane*, 75 laps)
11.10. Round 3 - Aston Classic Challenge (AS Club, 65 laps)
25.10. Round 4 - South City 200 (SO Chicane Route Reversed, 69 laps)

Timetable:
17:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET
- 20 minutes of qualifying
18:00 UTC / 20:00 CET / 21:00 EET - race start
* due daylight saving time change in Europe, the UTC time of rounds 4 and 5 will be accordingly 18:30 and 19:00!
* times of posted CET and EET timezones are the current times at the date - summer time in rounds 1-3,winter time in rounds 4-5.
* IMPORTANT NOTE: if you are not familiar with either CET or EET timezones, always refer to UTC to convert the correct event time to your timezone! Calendar of lfs.net website's leagues section always shows right time for your timezone!

Special notes on qualifying:
- If there is no full 40 car grid, drivers championship's top 10 drivers will be allowed to start from end of the grid if joined late and missed qualification. For 1st round last year's top 10 driver's can use this option.
- To qualify for the race drivers have to set a laptime during qualifying session within 112% of best laptime of the qualifying session. This does not affect championship's top 10 drivers as they may start the race without qualifying or with laptime outside 112% of best laptime.

Championships:
VERL Drivers Champion - awarded to a driver with the most points scored through all 5 rounds, including attendance bonus points
VERL Teams Champion - awarded to a team with the most points scored through all 5 rounds (team will score all points from it's 2 highest finished drivers and all round bonus points)

Rookie status will be marked in championship standings sheet in series spreadsheets (link in "Miscellaneous info" section of this post)

In all championships - in case of a tie, higher rated will be driver/team/nation with highest finishing position,if equal - it's amount,if equal - second highest position etc. If all finishing positions happen to be equal, higher rated will be selected using same system from qualifying results. If they also happen to be equal then as a tie-breaker will be used last round finishing position. In case a tied driver had a disqualification in one or more rounds,it counts as a primary rating lowering factor, when deciding tiebreak.

Rules:
We will not make a mile long rule book that noone will read completely anyway,so we will rely on common sence of competitors to behave and follow the basic Rules of Clean Racing. There will not be an admin in server who will specifically observe drivers' behaviour during the race,so any action will be made only after protest while all retirements will be investigated automatically. If any incidents reported/protested,we will take individual approach to each of them to decide best fair resolution or punishment if needed.

Basic guidelines as a reminder:
> Blue flag - you may not deny/block a passing manouvre of laping car and try a repass right after it. In qualification it means - stay off racing line and don't disturb drivers on hotlap.
> Shortcuts - 2 wheels on track at all times. Track is mostly marked by white lines, while also curbs count towards track. Overtaking outside track limits counts as illegal and will be penalized in case of a protest.
> Pit exit - allthough there will be no mandatory pitstop in this league, pit exit lines will have to be respected - drivers may not cross the pit exit line with more than 2 wheels and have to make way for cars racing at full speed. Failing to comply with this rule will award them with 10s penalty, while causing incidents will result in bigger penalty.
> Chatting - it's not completely outruled, but still drivers are expected to concentrate on racing. In case of too much chatting while ignoring messages asking to cease chatting,a penalty may be given. In case of any abusive/offensive language a penalty will be given! Any in server present observers/spectators are not allowed to chat at all during race session!
> Lags - if there are any connection issues, driver will be asked to improve (close internet using programs). If driver will be considered as dangerous due to unstable connection and high ping,he will not be allowed to participate at the current round.
> Hacks/cheats - if used, you will not race with us. Ever. As simple as that.

Possible penalties:
> WARNING - any minor infraction that needs to be noted without penalty. Warned driver might receive bigger penalty for other infractions.
> 10s added to finish time - minor infractions, like illegal passing, pit exit line violation, too much chatting.
> 30s added to finish time - medium infractions, like causing avoidable incident[s] without serious consequences, illegal passing.
> 60s added to finish time (1 lap penalty in rounds 2; 3 and 4) - medium infractions, like causing avoidable incident[s] with consequences to other drivers (like damage, multiple position loss) or unsportsmanlike behaviour.
> Disqualification for 1 or more rounds - heavy infractions, multiple incidents, unsportsmanlike behaviour. After serving disqualification, driver will automatically carry a "warning" for the rest of season.
> Series exclusion (including ban for any other events run under Race Green Events control) - serious infractions like intentional/revenge wrecking, event sabotage and any other malicious act.

VERL 2020 final standings

Race Green Events organizes 3 yearly leagues, one of them since 2012,but there was not a single returning champion. Until the 6th season of the V8 Racing League - finally this trend has been broken and we finally have a 2-time series champion!

Regarding purely statistical figures, this season was a step downwards - there were 38 signups for this season, which is lowest since 2016 and 4 less than last year. 7 never arived at any round,so 31 drivers actually participated - 5 less than last year and again lowest since 2016. Attendance ranged from 18 in 3rd round to all time lowest of 4 in final round, averaging just over 12 drivers per round, which is the lowest value in VERL history. Only 3 drivers attended all 5 rounds, one missed just a single round, which made the field during season very changing.

VERL 2020 Drivers Champion: S1DUS*S.Litmanen
The champion of inaugural league season S.Litmanen returned to series this year with dominating performance by taking all possible points from the 3 rounds he attended and leading all but one lap in these rounds. Due lack of competition it was enough to clinch the 2nd title before final round.
If the competition sleeps, other drivers have to step up their performance. This time it was J.A.Katila - he won the final round, thus climbing up to 2nd position in final standings with another top5 finish in the bag during season. His best performance in previous seasons was 7th in 2016 and 2017 and he returned to series after missing last season. 3rd in standings is the series host Rony, who posted 2 3rd place finishes and another top5 finish this season. The positions 2 and 3 were tied in points, but J.A.Katila had an advantage due higher best position - win in round 5. Defending series champion Dzban did not sign up for this season.

VERL 2020 Rookie of the Year: Maunokasa
This year's Rookie of the Year is everything else that a rookie in LFS single seater racing, but his season did not start very well here - he retired from round one after leading the 1st lap of the race, rejoined racing for rounds 3 and 4,where he scored a win and a 2nd place finish. Eventually it was good enough for 4th place in final standings and he outscored 2nd best rookie Fatass by 2 points. Last year's best rookie Dzban did not participated as mentioned before.

VERL 2020 Teams Champions: Team S1DUS
Relatively recently founded Team S1DUS found the way to teams championship in VERL right with the first try - mostly with series champion's performance, but without help of Gábor and Altsu it would have been just 2nd position,as they scored very valuable points with their 2 podium finishes. The hosting team of Race Green Autosports finished 2nd standings with 3 of their 4 drivers finishing in top10 in drivers final standings,RGA scored a total of 6 top5 finishes. The 2 driver team "a" took the 3rd position in standings, scoring 4 top5 finishes during the season. The defending champions Medrecers-MLG Patronus were represented by a sole driver Oliver, who attended only first 2 rounds, placing the team in 6th position.

VERL 2020 Nations Cup winners: Finland
After the weak previous season, the 4-time nations champions stepped up their performance and retook the title and became the 5-time champions. All 5 rounds were won by finnish drivers and they scored a total of 13 top5 finishes (out of 24) during the season. Latvia repeated it's best result 2nd in standings for the 3rd time, this year with performance of a single driver. Hungary started the season strong by scoring 27 points in round one,but could not keep the performance up and in final round were demoted to 3rd position in final standings. Not a single driver from defending nations champions Poland signed up for this season.

Race Green Events thanks to all competitors for their attendance and hopes it was fun for them. Unfortunatelly the growth of VERL is stopped and this season was a bit dissapointing in both competition and attendance, but it still offered plenty of good and challenging racing. If no major events will change the situation,VERL will return for it's 7th season in late summer or early fall of 2021,hopefully with better competition on track and more intrigue for series. Regarding future of Race Green Events - no changes are planned so far. RTFR and RTFR XL won't stop until bitter end and 26th december should be marked in calenders for all the crazy LFS drivers - it will be already the 10th running of "This is Crashmaaas !!!". Also the winter league AWS is being planned to return for the decade season and should start in the 1st sunday of the new year.

See you on track! Thumbs up
