AWS 2022 - Round 2
All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2022
Round 2

Monday,3rd January
18:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET

The new year starts with 2nd round of AWS 2022 season and it's a round that has been on league's schedule every single year, but it was never really the same as there are plenty of different configurations to run and sometimes we even used the other AWD car. This year we'll run on configuration never used before - Chicane Route in it's default direction. The track offers both South City's longest straights and the tricky narrow chicane that can take even the best out if not focused well on racing.

After one round it's not possible to make any conclusions yet,but with defending series champion winning 1st round a possible trait shows up. He has some strong competition though - a previous champion, two winningest drivers in series history and a potential high rising rookie. Round 2 of 7 will not decide anything but might an important step towards any of the titles.

After something new in 1st round,AWS returned to it's classics on 2nd round - FXR race at South City under sunset lighting (we really hopw to change this to night race in next season). Unfortunatelly there was not much action up ahead as top 4 drivers never really switched positions and all the racing turned into distance nerves battle as the chicane was always a threat to slightest lack of focus.

V.Laguckas scored pole position and celebrated the 8th of those in league history (2 more than 2nd best) and after leading all 40 laps he scored also his 8th racewin in AWS - tying Dzidoris for most in league history. Despite finishing just more than 2 seconds behind winner,R.Kardol could not pose a real threat to racewinner and saw his 4 racewins streak end,but still 2nd place finish brought him a lot of valuable championship points. The teammate of defending champion finished 3rd - Unite lacked the pace to follow the leading duo and had plenty of movement in his mirrors, but could keep his podium finish.

After 2 rounds the top of the table has tied points situation, where the defending champion keeps his lead in table just due better 2nd best finishing position,V.Laguckas has climbed to 2nd place. Behind the 2 leaders there is an 11 points gap to 3rd position, taken by Dzidoris. However V.Laguckas has 5 points lead in FXR Master standings over R.Kardol,Unite is 3rd another 2 points behind.

With previous leader not attending in this round, there is a new leader in rookie standings - Thehemuli leads Silva by 2 points,PedroBR is 3rd with 10 points gap to lead.

Last Lap Motorsports still leads the teams standings, but their 7 point lead after 1st round has been reduced to 2 points over 2nd place in table S1dus. RGA is 3rd,18 points behind. In nations standings Lithuania keeps increasing the lead as they are already 15 points ahead of Finland. Netherlands keeps the 3rd position, but their gap to lead increased to 26 points.

After 2 weeks AWS round 3 will bring the 3rd car into action - RB4 will be raced on Westhill's support roads, where a new configuration named West Street Course awaits racers with some tricky turns. As always the relatively low average speeds will keep the tire overheating problems rather small while mistakes could cause damage problems higher than in standard tracks.
