The Westhill Rally started with two stages, earlier this week: a super technical prologue stage, set around the famous Westlodge Hotel of Westhill, followed by a much bigger, flowing and fast Stage 1 around the east part of the course.
23 Rally drivers showed up for the challenge, and the Prologue was off to a spectacular start: [MRC] TimDC and SSM X Silva battled till the last second for the stage win.
Tim pressured Silva, who eventually touched a tyre and received a 2 seconds time penalty, demoting him to second at the chequered flag!
It was the first stage win of the season for [MRC] Tim, followed by Silva and TAV-Suforr in 3rd.
Stage 1 was the biggest stage of the season so far, and saw much bigger gaps between drivers: the long, fast but still technical course provided plenty of challenges for the drivers, and lots of mistakes all around the field translated into another exciting battle at the front.
This time, it was Kyr1l? the main rival for SSM x Silva: the two of them had a pretty much evenly matched run through the rally, till the last sector where Silva created a bit of time difference.
At the end, the norwegian ace managed to pull off a 2.4 seconds gap on the russian rival, but another 2 seconds time penalty for Silva meant that he won the stage by just 4 TENTHS!
Insane close gap after a nearly 7 minutes long stage.
RALLY HIGHLIGHTS
