Only two drivers were left in the run for the OWRL F1 championship 2009. Adam Wisniewski, driver of 1stBFA Racing Team, was leading with seventeen points in front of Speedcore driver Nelson Marques and three additional points away from the title. The eleventh race and possible the last with Matthias Agari as the defending champion took place at the Westhill International Circuit before heading to the final two races in Aston and Kyoto. But in qualifying neither of them matched their current championship position.
Pasi Juvani was the man of qualifying who led both sessions for the Xcite Dragon Racing Team, followed by Pete Hopkins of Sonicrealms Racing. Wisniewski was third, Marques only on fifth when Speedfreak Damon Ryder took fourth and splitted the contenders. Hopkins already warned Juvani before the start and once the red lights went out, he stormed to the front. Wisniewski wished he could do it the same but found himself in fourth when Ryder made a great start and took third. Matthias Lust on the other end had to stop in the first lap to take the right tyres and quened up with drivers like Wisniewski who had the same problem a few races ago. Speaking about him, Wisniewski made his move on Ryder withouot much effort and took third. A bit later Ryder went to the pits which revealed his three-stop strategy. Innovate Racing drivers Zimmermann and Gießler wished to drive that far but many problems end their races early.
Agari, still champion has more luck after sliding off the track after touching the grass at a fast right-hander. Back on track he found himself just in front of the midfield, mainly Anton Moroz and two new drivers: Mignien for Sonicrealms and Storhaug for the 1stBFA Racing Team. Mignien and Moroz fell back with problems, Storhaug however found himself battling with Ryder who joined him after his second pitstop. But whem Ryder made his third stop it became clear that Storhaug will have the upperhand in their fight. At the front the top four were planning two stops. Leader Hopkins was first, followed by Juvani who came one lap later. With its fast turns a heavy car loses more time compared to other tracks and therefore Juvani rejoined in front of Hopkins. Wisniewski went to the pits three laps later and rejoined in front of both, giving the lead to Marques, who was on a very long stint but rejoined behind the other three.
The top three were very close. Hopkins and Juvani had a lighter car than Wisniewski. Hopkins took advantage of a little mistake by Juvani and then a few laps before the end of his stint he took the lead. But he couldn't drive away from Wisniewski who had fuel for four additional laps. Hopkins and Juvani went at the same time into the pits and left there without a position change. Wisniewski rejoined four laps later in front of them with a gap of eight seconds. At that time Juvani had to retire with technical problems. That was a good chance for Marques and after his second stint – again very long – he rejoined just two seconds behind Hopkins on third and the latter found Marques a few laps later in full dimension in his mirrors. If he could finish on second he would delay the title decision for at least two weeks. Agari, half a minute behind them, took fourth despite his error in the early stages of the race in front of Storhaug and Ryder.
Wisniewski would win this race, that position was out of question. Eight laps were left for Marques to overtake Hopkins, he got close, but not close enough to attack on one of the fastest tracks of Live for Speed. Hopkins didn't make a mistake and at the end he won two seconds against Marques. Leader Adam Wisniewski won the race and four points more than Marques, therefore winning this years' championship. This was his sixth win of the season but for the first time two wins in a row. Hopkins could reach third in the championship, tied with Hörenbaum. Agari and Storhaug are in the lead lap on fourth and fifth position, Damon Ryder lost concentration and time at the end of the race and finished sixth in front of his teammate Ramon Ryder. Matthias Lust of Factory Phantom Racing gains the last point despite his unplannend pit stop in lap one.
With Adam Wisniewski winning the driver's championship the 1stBFA Racing Team already has one title in the bag. They are also leading the Team championship by a large amount of points, but there are still three points left to close the deal against Sonicrealms Racing, who are second thanks to a successful second half of the season, scoring more than ten points on average since then.
Round twelve on the Aston Grand Touring circuit will take place on 24 October at 19:30 CEST.
