The first round of the Apex Cup was held this Friday. Aston North was the track for this round and with the exciting Formula V8 as car it seemed to be an interesting combo to start the season with.
At the end of the qualification session it was Jan Wiechowski who took the pole for the sprint race. Behind him was Nolan Scott from ineX-Racing.
The sprint race showed clean racing and not many incidents occurred. Wiechowski, Scott and Barbosa managed to keep up a decent gap towards the rest of the drivers and they seemed to be sure of a good result. Nolan Scott had some troubles in the end of the sprint race to keep his tyres somewhat cool but he managed to keep Barbosa behind him.
For the main race there was a reversed top 10 grid from the sprint race. This meant that Juvani started on pole. The main race had more incidents compared to the sprint race. Scott and Barbosa had quite a bit of trouble at the start of the race and ended up in the gravel after turn 1. Both drivers could continue without too much damage. Barbosa and Runas made a clever move to pit in lap 2 and thus fulfilling the main race requirements of pitting and changing all four tyres. Wiechowski proceeded to dominate this round by also winning the main race. It was Juvani who finished second after taking maximum advantage from his pole position. The last podium position was earned by Kevin Leu.
Driver Quotes:
Kevin Leu:
"Really not much to tell from my side, I was hoping for a finish somewhere in the top 10 since the formula cars in lfs are not my strongest class. Went a lot better then I expected even though my races where quite lonely, managed to get away cleanly on both starts and just had to keep the car on the track to get my position home."
