The fifth round of the Apex Cup was held Friday the 2nd at the small streets of South City Town Reversed with the MRT5.
In qualifying it was Adam Wisniewski from spdoRacing who took the pole position with a time of 1:25.50, only 0.06 slower than the current world record. Behind him it was Nolan Scott and Luis Barbosa who took the second and third place on the starting grid.
In the sprint race Nolan Scott from ineX Racing managed to pass Wisniewski for the lead in lap 2 after comming into his slipstream. He drove a solid pace to the end and took a quite easy win with a 4 seconds advantage over the second place. Luis Barbosa closed the gap to Wisniewski in lap 5 and passed him on the main straight, after a little fight Barbosa hitted the rear end of Wisniewski which made him spun. Fortunately for him he didn't lose much time and continued his race, ending in 4th position in the end. Jan Wiechowski from Conquest Racing drove a good race and ended in 3rd, winning one position.
The main race started with the top 10 reversed. In turn 2 of lap 1 disaster striked for Nolan Scott, he didn't take any risks but still got involved in a big crash with multiple drivers involved. Barbosa outbraked himself into the downhill section and hitted the car in front of him which resulted in a big crash. With some lag involved Scott and Wiechowski both ended up on the roof of their car, which resulted in a DNF. Barbosa got a DT for causing the collision, after making an early pit stop in lap 2 of the race. Meanwhile it was Paul Mante who passed a lot of drivers while others making their mandatory pit stops, resulting in a P1 after lap 9. He still had to make his own pit stop, which he completed in lap 24. Comming back onto the track he got in third and after winning one more position he finished in second place. Wisniewski also made his way up into the field and won the main race with a 10 second advantage over P2. Kristaps Dzelzgalvis took the last place of the podium, after starting from pole position in the main race. Kevin Leu from Concept Racing drove a solid race and didn't win or lose any positions in the end, finishing in 4th.
In the championship standings it's still Nolan Scott who's leading the driver standings, Luis Barbosa managed to close the gap to 2 points. In the team standings it's Conquest Racing who's still leading in front of ineX Racing.
We look forward to Round 6 which will be held on the 16th of July on Fern Bay Gold with the TBO. The FXO Turbo will have some restriction, which will be announced as soon as possible.
