GTAL '11 Round 4 LIVE on multiBC 15/01/11 17:55 UTC - Race Preview

The 2011 GT Amateur League season is at the midpoint. An exciting season so far, with no repeat winners yet, and a massive shuffling at the front is for sure to occur at this round, like has been seen for most of the season so far.

Off the heels of the chaotic Fern Bay Black Round, which saw a GTAL record 15 Safety Car deployments, the Aston Grand Touring Reversed venue has a vast array of gravel traps as well as the tricky first turn chicane to be danger spots for cars becoming stuck or flipped. The administration will be attempting to reduce the number of Safety Car Deployments due to cars stuck in gravel, by sending a Rescue Car along the side of a green track, but in a local yellow situation to the scene, and attempting to free the stuck car without needing a Safety Car. To this end, there will be two Rescue Cars stationed around the track, one at pit lane and one at the North straight, making every gravel trap accessible within 90 seconds of any rescue car.

The level of competition this season has been fierce, with multiple teams showing ability to be at the front of the pack. The top 13 for this grid are separated by only a second, with each model of car represented at least twice in the top 10. The amended balancing seems to be proving itself sucessful so far this season, bringing the FXR and XRR more into contention at more tracks, as was desired.

On the flip side, however, this season is not just about raw pace, but consistency also. The challenge in endurance racing is to go the furthest you can, as fast as you dare. It is about managing the need for fast speed, but the risks associated with the fast speed. As the previous round has proved, it's not always about raw pace and constant risk-taking - the teams who finished took risks only when needed, and brought the car home for a finish.

RAPTOR-Racing take pole for this round, earning the two bonus points for the position. CoRe Racing and Genuine Racing round out the top three. Second position in the championship team Sonicrealms Racing have withdrawn from this round, and championship leaders The Xcite Inferno (Grid: 9th) have a 42 point lead over 3rd place RAPTOR-Racing. A poor showing from The Xcite Inferno can launch RAPTOR, The Danish Racing Team (Grid: 8th), and mpower Team (Grid: 13th) right back into the thick of the title fight if they can finish well in Saturday's Race. There still remains after this round one more 3 hour race, one more 6 hour (1.5x points) race, and the season-finale double-points 12 hour race.

You'll be able to follow all of the action for this round, as well as any other rounds at our broadcast host, multiBC. Each round is on Stream III. Links are available at the end of this posting.

Even considering the current turbulent environment in Live for Speed, the GTAL series has a full grid and an active waiting list, showing that there is still a desire to race. We continue to thank all who help administer our events, as well as those who race and spectate. Full information on how to follow today's race is listed below:
