The third round of Apex Cup season 2 was held on Friday the 25th of March at the oldschool circuit Blackwood GP reversed.
Qualifying was extremely close with only a 0.72 gap between the first 20 drivers on the grid. In the end it was R.v.Buren from team ineX Racing 2 who took the pole position with a time of 1:22.92, only 0.10 slower than the current World Record. J.Holmes from ineX Racing took the second spot on the grid with a time of 1:22.95, while his teammate S.Cattell was only 0.03 slower in 3rd position. T.Nogieć from CoRe Racing took the fourth place on the grid, with three My3id Gaming drivers just behind him. K.Leu from Concept Racing completed the top 8 with a time of 1:23.30.
The sprint race of 11 laps started without much troubles for the first 3 rows of the grid. T.Nogieć didn't have the same pace as in qualifying and lost several positions in the first few laps. In the fourth lap into the race he got a little tap on the rear from I.Price which put him into the gravel making him lose a lot of places. The front cars were driving very consistently and R.v.Buren won the race without any problems. J.Holmes finished 2 seconds behind him with N.Ðaković completing the podium after winning two positions. M.Wentjarvi from Drunk Team 1 finished 10th, which meant he was on pole for the main race.
M.Wentjarvi had a good start and was so able to defend his first position for the first few laps. Meanwhile there were lots of fights in the midpack of the field, with many position changes on the long back straight. R.v.Buren drove some excellent first few laps and was able to profit from others mistakes or position fights. He already took the lead in lap 8 after starting 10th. He managed good pace which brought him the win and the maximum number of points for this round. In the meantime it was K.Leu who fought his was up the field, he finished second in the end almost 10 seconds behind R.v.Buren. J.Basford who made his mandatory pit-stop in the second lap of the race and was so able to gain some time on the front guys while having a clean track in front of him. J.Holmes pitted in lap 23 of the race and rejoined the track just in front of J.Basford. After an almost 10 lap battle it was J.Holmes that took the final podium spot after some crucial contact with J.Basford in the last corner. S.Cattell was very unlucky when he exceeded the maximum pitlane speed on his mandatory pit-stop, due to a 30 second penalty he dropped from 2nd to 16th in the end. M.Silhanek from spdo Racing finished 5th in the end behind J.Basford.
J.Basford is still leading the championship lead ith only a 3 points margin over J.Holmes. My3id Gaming is leading the team championship with ineX Racing and ineX Racing 2 behind them.
