The fourth round of Apex Cup season 2 was held on Friday the 8th of April at the highspeed circuit Westhill International with the Formula V8.
In qualifying it was R.v.Buren from team ineX Racing 2 who took the pole position with a time of 1:20.98, only 0.14 slower than the current World Record. J.Lehikoinen from My3id Gaming 2 took the second spot on the grid with a time of 1:21.01, while J.Teien from Sonicrealms Racing took 3rd. J.Basford and N.Ðakovic from My3id Gaming completed the top 5 of the grid for the sprint race.
The sprint race of 11 laps started cleanly with only a few incidents in the back. J.Lehikoinen had a great start and was able to overtake R.v.Buren after comming into his slipstream in turn 1. He drove a fast consistent pace for the remaining of the race and took the win of the sprint race. J.Basford won two positions in the first lap but made a small mistake in lap 3 which putted him back in 6th. R.v.Buren finished second in the end with J.Holmes from ineX Racing 6 seconds behind him. D.Lind from Genuine Racing took the 4th place while J.Basford finished in 5th position after winning one more position over J.Teien. M.Saukkoriipi from Drunk Team 3 finished 10th, which meant he was on pole for the main race.
As the feature race got under way, M.Saukkoriipi was unable to hold on to first position. J.Teien who started from fourth made a fantastic start and took the lead in the second corner. Also R.v.Buren and D.Lind won mutliple positions in the first lap which brought them quickly in the front of the pack. J.Basford came into the first position after J.Teien made his mandatory pit-stop in lap 4. At this stage R.v.Buren was 2 seconds behind J.Basford. Over the next 18 laps the gap increased steadily to 6.5 seconds, before J.Basford pitted on lap 22. This early pit stop proved crucial and in the final 10 laps the roles were reversed. R.v.Buren now had a chance to put in some hot laps with optimal tyres while J.Basford got a new set up to speed. When R.v.Buren pitted on lap 31 he had just done enough to exit the pits under 2 seconds ahead. J.Basford wasn't able to close the gap and so it was R.v.Buren that took the win followed by J.Basford in 2nd. J.Teien finished in 3rd after making is early in pit-stop in lap 4, followed by K.Leu from Concept Racing. J.Lehikoinen and D.Lind finished respectively 5th and 6th while J.Holmes scored a DNF afer timing out in the race.
J.Basford extends his championship lead over J.Holmes with a margin of 14 points. R.v.Buren is now equall in points with J.Holmes after his strong performance in the last two rounds. My3id Gaming is still leading the team championship with ineX Racing and ineX Racing 2 behind them.
We look forward to the next round which will be held on the 22th of April, on Kyoto Ring International with the FZ50 and RaceAbout. Also this race we have live broadcasting including live commentating, don't forget to tune in at 18.00UTC!
Finally we want to thank Tommy Østgaard for doing the commentating during the broadcast!
