At the drop of the green flag it looked like Elton Chong in the number 76 LAG entry might have been just a good qualifier. Starting from the pole position with a lap time of 2:49.20 he was clearly the favorite to win as he bettered his closest competitor (Joe Holmes of My3id Gaming) by more than a half second. However, this was not so clear after the first set of corners placed him behind Holmes's XRT.
Charging down the oval portion of the track Chong took advantage of the draft and crossed underneath of Joe. He would not look back the rest of the afternoon as he cruised onto a 52 second victory over Nikifor Dakovic's number 2 My3id Gaming XRT in the first round of Realistic NASCAR's World TBO Championship Series. Coming in at the bottom of the podium was Andris Pavars of Tiger Express Motorsports who finished the race a minute and three seconds behind Elton Chong's blistering pace.
Joe Holmes would have issues on lap number 9, when his connection gave out knocking him out of the race from the top 5. He would return as a spectator towards the later portions of the race, and will be credited with a 17th place finish after starting on the outside of the front row.
The race ran caution free, and the only other incidents were a few blown tires, and the number 6 of Pawel Korpulinski ran out of fuel on the 30th lap in the 4th position. Norway's Ken Johansen in the number 11 FXO, (being the lowest running car still on the track) decided to help push him back to pit road, and the track was able to remain clear and green. Korpulinski would be credited with a 12th place finish.
Round number 2 will be in 2 weeks on Sunday, September 25th. Drivers will be tackling the tight turns of Aston North in the Aston 150. There's still room for more teams and drivers on the grid for this next week, so don't hesitate to sign-up and come out to join us.
