After defeating the field in qualifying with a lap under world record time, it looked like it would be another run away victory for Elton Chong and his Number 76 XRT, but once again he was unable to maintain the lead on cold tires, and by the time that he entered turn number two he was in second place behind My3id Gaming's Nikifor Dakovic.
The bumping and grinding began in the second turn as the number 33 of Valtteri Pitkanen put his nose between the 68 of Scotty Moore and the number 12 of Morgan Trolle at the beginning of the braking zone, which turned Moore into the inside off of Trolle, and then again to the outside where his nose found the right rear quarter panel of Andris Pavars sending him around on the outside of the turn. The track remained green and the field was able to get around his parked car without incident.
Around the tight left hander the field preceded with a lot of beating and banging, and racing two and three wide, but all shot out of that corner unscathed.
As the race settled in it became apparent that it would come down to Nikifor Dakovic and Elton Chong should they be able to finish without problem, and lap number three brought trouble to the both of them.
Entering the first turn Chong missed the braking zone and clipped the rear end of Dakovic sending the Bosnian looping around into the gravel trap outside of the first turn. While the number two car struggled to get out of the sand trap, and cars racing two and three wide barreled into the turn the resident of Hong Kong awaited his rival to get back onto the racing surface. The close racing in the middle of the pack, and the cars sitting on the track prompted Race Control to throw a yellow flag. While the two former leaders were relatively damage free, they now found themselves mired back in traffic in the 9th and 11th positions. Their scuffle handed the lead over to the number 88 Sonicrealms Racing FXO of Arturs Jonaitis who had been able to slip past the incident without trouble.
Joanaitis was able to hold off a hard charge from the number 23 and 12 spdoRacing XRT's of Martin Silhanek and Morgan Trolleon on the the restart and was able to take a commanding lead as Nikifor and Elton fought their way (sometimes with a little nudge if needed) through the pack, which was unwilling to let them through without a fight.
After fighting for third position with Nikifor for some laps and not being able to find a way around, the fighting pair found themselves staring down Morgan Trolle for the second position. They passed him with six laps to go and with five laps to go Nikifor Davovic found himself 1.12 seconds behind Arturs Jonaitis, and Elton Chong was 2.20.
It wasn't long before Jonaitis slipped up and clipped a tire entering the longest stright on the race track and sent himself back into the second position, which soon turned into the third, and essentially out of contention for the win as the two leaders were clearly the class of the field on this day.
Elton Chong had three and a half more laps to catch and pass Nikifor Dakovic, but the Bosnian was rock solid and was able to hold off a slipping and sliding Elton Chong out of the final corner to his first World TBO Championship Series victory in the Aston 150.
