Into its sixth year, the Kyoto 500 returns to be the premier Formula V8 oval event, and perhaps overall oval event in Live for Speed. No repeat winners. Never has the polesitter won. 268 laps of pure action, starting with a three-wide start. A full grid in 10 rows of 3 is amazing to see in Live for Speed.
It's an event that does require a fair bit of preparation, and an extremely unique qualifying format in LFS. Modeled after the old Indianapolis 500 format, each driver gets three attempts on each of two days of qualifying to set the fastest 4-lap AVERAGE. Saturday is Pole Day - pole will be set after this session ends. Sunday is Bump Day - the process of bumping the car in 30th position out of the grid if possible. A banker attempt is a must, because starting a new attempt permanently deletes an old one. Is the risk worth it? It can be if you're in the lower positions in qualifying, but a fast time high in the time sheet usually means a driver sits on his time and enjoys the chase for the remaining spots.
Race day brings its own challenges and decisions. The first laps are always hectic, and first-lap crashes are an unfortunate reality. Strategy, perfect pitstops, cooperation with competitiors to stay in the hunt for an entire race that usually lasts a bit over 3 hours tests the endurance and patience of all drivers. The reward is a victory in the Greatest Spectacle in LFS.
Signups are open until 17:05 UTC on Friday, 21 June 2013. You must have 300 online laps of the FO8 on KY1, along with a hotlap of the same uploaded to LFSWorld within 103.5% of the World Record.
