OVERVIEW
The 2014 Genuine Racing GT1 Challenge marks a number of big changes and massive steps forward for what now will be the 3rd season of this series. For this edition of the championship the teams' championship will be in the focus rather than the drivers' championship, as the GT1 Challenge turns into a 7 event long series and takes up elements of the Japanese Super GT series, with 300 to 1000 km long races and 2 to 3 drivers per car. On top of that the car selection process has been simplified extremely, with now only the FZR being available. All these measures have been taken to intensify the racing experience even more and give more drivers the chance to compete as well as making strategic decisions way more important than before.
Also, for the first time ever, the GT1 Challenge will utilise pre-qualifying to determine which teams are allowed to compete in the event, starting from Thursday before the race and ending 24 hours later on the Friday before the race. Following the first round, the top 10 teams in points will be locked into the main event. The qualifying and race sessions have both been moved to Saturday with a 20-minute long qualifying session taking place exactly 30 minutes before the scheduled race start. Those races will as in the previous two championships be started with a single file rolling start after a formation lap behind the pace car. And, although the focus lies on the teams championship now, there is still a drivers title to be awarded to the most successful driver(s) throughout the 8 championship rounds.
All teams are welcome to participate and file up to two entries, should there be overwhelming demand or more or should the amount of entries require it, that limit will be removed.
