I have done the same, friday and monday are booked off work.

I may be able to get Felplacerad as well, but it depends if im in the rover or the mx5, as the rover isn't gonna last much longer,my poor gearbox is ready to wave a cheery goodbye any day now, and my mate is still arsing about looking for a new car, which i need him to do so i can buy his current one.

If i he doesn't buy a new car in time then i may have to bite the bullet and just sling another gearbox in the rover, as i don't trust it for long journeys as it is at the moment..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2FaW8byYI0

I will keep you informed!

EDIT: Felplacerad has kindly provided some mirrors.
Mirror 1: Streaming Mirror
Mirror 2: Stream/Download Mirror

I'm fielding for feedback and opinions on broadcasting of a live LFS series, i'm very keen to know if a series as I describe in the first 5 minutes of this video is one you might be interested in watching.

The basic premise, if you don't want to watch me talking (in which case just answer no in the poll :P) is to bring back the STCC broadcast league, but moving it on to new standards within a live broadcast framework with a homemade studio show.

Providing a full afternoon of entertainment with the half hour feature race, all of the preceeding heats, driver interviews, and stewarding discussions and decisions all live.

If you want to know more i've linked a video above. I couldn't put it on You Tube as it's 12 minutes long (5 minutes about broadcast format, 7 minutes extra info for those interested in the series) and they've done away with my ability to upload over 10 minute videos ( grrrr! ).

Race Center Event - Details Thread
tristancliffe
S3 licensed
The event is booked for the 25th January 2008 at 1pm at The Race Center.
The Race Centre can be found here, near Southampton.

The plan is to meet at:
The Hut is a large pub (Beefeater chain) with plenty of car parking, 2 minute walk from the race centre. Ideal. Mmm, beer. And lunch, for the non-alcoholics among us.

Chances are that some LFSers will be there from 11am onwards, perhaps earlier, so don't worry about being early. Do, however, worry about being late! If you are going to arrive after 12:30 I would suggest going directly to the Race Center and awaiting us there.

You will almost certainly be able to exchange mobile phone details with other people to make sure you know where you're going at any given time.

The event format is yet to be finalised - not that that is a problem; you'll just do what you're told by the man in charge at The Race Center! - and the car/track we'll be using is to be decided on the day so nobody knows in advance... Fiendish eh?!

Anyone can arrive to spectate. No need to tell me, or confirm or anything. But you won't get to race (with us, or without spending your own money)

NOTE: THIS EVENT WAS A PRIZE FOR A COMPETITION IN AUTOSPORT MAGAZINE. THEREFORE IT IS FREE (not including fuel, transport, food, drink, bets etc. Your house may be at risk if you set fire to it)

People

The following have confirmed they are coming (in no particular order):

1. Tristan (that's me)
2. Ben - Bob Smith
3. Damian - Nihil
4. Jamie - S14 Drift (also bringing Jaffa Cakes)
5. Dajmin (depending on test result)
6. Jason Matthews
7. Dean - Franky500
8. Kenneth - Kayjay
9. Mark Matthews
10. Alex - Minimaxman
11. Andrew - Bozo (plus infuriating spectating children)
12. Thomas - Felplacerad
13. Joe Keaveney
14. Becky Rose (promoted from Reserve)
15. Alex - Ajp71
16. Tim - Funnybear (unless he's in a gutter somewhere)
17. Mark Fletcher - Fletch248 or something similar
18. Chris - Gills4Life (in need of a lift - please let him know if you can help)
19. Chris Raemisch
20.

LFS Dream Team
Driver: Tristan Cliffe (nothing gets the fans behind you more than being an underdog team, having Tristan as the driver ensures that every near victory is marked with a spin off whilst going down a straight).

2nd Driver: Felplacerad (he looks like Nick Neidfeld so we can maybe get some German engines in)

Press Officer: kev thisnameistaken (he'll make sure that no members of the press interfere with the team when we're busy)

Team Manager: Jack Green jakg (when the press start digging up private lives we need a puppet who has already posted every bit of dirt about himself on the forum so there is nothing new to find)

Sponsor Liason: Dustin Dawes dawesdust_12 (When he isnt cracking jokes we can still laugh at him, the perfect candidate for entertaining those millionaire guests)

KERS Design: lerts (we all know KERS is going to be a big failure anyway, but there's no harm trying - right? Who better than the inventor of perpetual motion)

Grid Girl: Scawen (well he does have lovely hair)

Ah man, felplacerad is coming? And Bob?

If they're going, I'm going (if Tristan lets me). It was great to race some of you guys at Bob's meet in the summer. BTW I may be able to put up a driver or two overnight as i live in Wiltshire, just up the road. Note the 'maybe'!

Can't believe felplacerad will come (again!) from Gothenburg for this. You're properly dedicated to your racing man. Respect.

Ah crap. If felplacerad is coming over again, I have to be there. A good thing my holiday gets reset in January, as I'll need some to come down now, seeing as sometime in January is looking very much on the cards.

Although I'll be driving almost the entire length of the A1, I'll probably be driving down the day before, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to give anyone a lift on the way. While I don't mind strangers crashing a night at my place, my parents might not feel the same way.

Thomas - chat to me on MSN, I'll be driving past London Heathrow, if that's where you would fly to, and depending on how long you're planning to stay in the UK, I might be able to help you out.

A few weeks ago I recieved the following

Quote :Dear Tristan,

Congratulations you have won The Race Centre / Autosport Competition.

Our apologies for the delay in notifying you, but we are delighted to inform you that you won the competition you entered in Autosport in July.

The Race Centre is the first race car simulation centre in the UK and you have won your own private race event at The Race Centre for up to 20 drivers.

Your event can be run as a Team Endurance race or a Grand Prix Heats event and we will help you in deciding what will be most appropriate for your event including the choice of car and circuit. Our website www.driverschallenge.co.uk explains the events formats. Once you have had the opportunity to view the website please contact me to discuss the options and a suitable date for your event.

Kindest Regards

I originally opened the offer to my real life racing club, but didn't get much in the way of response. So, I've decided to open up the offer to you lot.

There is currently no date set - this is something I'll need to arrange depending on who is interested and when it's felt a good time is.

I have 19 spaces free at the time of writing. If you want to come post your interest here. It's almost first come, first served, although I reserve the right to not invite interested parties that I have no wish to invite

Don't forget that the event itself is totally free!!! Much better than Bob's previous LFS meet which cost you money (on top of travel/hotels etc).

So, put your names down, and give some ideas of when you'd like to do this. E.g. late December, or Mid January etc. It'll almost certainly be a weekend. Please - don't forget to give some thought to dates. I'd hate to arrange a time that isn't actually good for you all! January is looking most likely, probably in the first weekend or two I'd think.

The Race Centre can be found here, near Southampton.

6. S14 Drift - Easy going. Ha ha ha! But will bring Jaffa Cakes. He promised.

8. Franky500
9. Tongey - January. Can't do weekend of 17th and 24th
10. Kayjay
11. Mark Matthews (Jason's brother)
12. Felplacerad - January weekend. All the way from fecking Gothenburg, which makes Jakg look like an even bigger blouse!
13. Joe Keaveney
14. Mcgas001 - Easy
15. Rick uk - January
16. Minimaxman - Jan
17. V1rg0 - Jan
18. DaveWS - beginning of January

Finally got around to writing my race report. I was going to scan my results and post them to, but no-one else has so they will be pointless on their own.

Anyway, the report:

Qualifying:
My practice was spent finding the lines and just getting to grips with the kart. Then after not very long at all (although it was about 12minutes I think) they showed us the green flag which meant "these laps are now being timed". I was able to push and push and managed to link a few decent laps together. Actually, after the qualifying, before I knew my position, I was quite pleased (no body had passed me and I had felt quite quick).

I parked the kart on the second row at the right hand side - I was sure this was in the qualifying position, but was not sure if this was 3rd or 4th - either way, I was happy.

When the grid was announced, I was third, behind Becky (in first) and Thomas (felplacerad) in second. I was pleased - nah delighted, but about 1 second off their pace which was a bit humbling.

Then we got back in and started the race, with a rolling start. This I know I am not good at, because every other time I have tried a rolling start I have been left behind. Anyway, I tried to concentrate and keep well behind Becky. As the lights went green I moved across to the left hand side of the track and was getting down the outside of Becky for the first corner (this can be seen in the picture labelled "On the run down to T1", I am kart number 2) - unfortunately, this did not work as I was passed on the inside instead by kart number 17 (Victor I think).

Now this is where it gets somewhat confusing - At the end of lap 1, I was fourth - I knew this because I had been overtaken at the start. At the end of the first lap, due to some drama, kart number 15 (Jason) was in front of us all and was overtaken by Thomas soon after. Then Becky tried to follow but somewhere spun and lost a lot of time (which she later made up brilliantly, I might add). So after Becky's spin, I was third.

The next few laps (10 or 15 I think) were nice, I was trying to catch Jason, but couldn't. There were times I was sliding on the water and one corner was getting slippier and slippier for the line I was taking. On one lap, a kart (no idea who) spun in front of me and I had to take quick avoiding action across the kerb. This was fun actually, and I was glad I had escaped. It lost me a lot of time to Jason who I was chasing.

Soon I saw Becky catching me up - and I knew it was her due to her overalls. She caught me and finally overtook me at the end of the back straight into the hairpin. I then followed her very closely and amazed myself by not letter her get too far in front of me. In fact, on the first part of the track, I was faster. The second half was all hers though. Anyway, I kept quite close and then we came up to the back of a back marker (I won't name names but she was the slowest out there ). We had just gone through the slippery chicane and as we headed down towards the hairpin, Becky went to the left and I went to the right. It was quite amazing, and even more so for me as I came out of the hairpin in front and then just about managed to stay in front of Becky all the way to the chequered flag (which was only about 5 laps if I remember correctly).

Now, at this point, I was thinking, I must be third at the most, maybe even second - I had lost sight of those in front of me but there had been some spinners, and I wasn't sure who was who. Secretly, I was hoping for third.

Anyway, when the results were announced, I was fourth and Jason had taken third spot. Now I don't want to take anything away from Jason, but something wierd happened at the start and I think the centre had allowed him to take the place. I really don't mind (as the whole day was loads of fun) but I did want to point it out.

Finally, thanks once again to Ben for organising it - your efforts are greatly appreciated and thanks to everyone for making it so enjoyable and fun. I was pleased to meet Thomas and Victor and Becky and Joe, and good to see all those again from previous years (Ben, Ian, need, nihil).

See you all (hopefully) next year!

Other Event details

The track is very close to my house. For those who want to stay at mine, you are welcome. You can even pitch up tents in my garden if you want, I have plenty of space. I could probably accomodate around 20 in my house and more if you brought tents, you would just need to bring a sleeping bag. Also we can have a proper party type thing after the karting. I have a Full size pool table, Wii, lots of PC's (with LFS of course), projector and of course there will be plenty of beer and a BBQ.. I will even set up a Gazeebo thingy outside, so it should be good fun. I would want £15 each for food and beer if you stay at mine.

For those not wanting to stay at mine, there are plenty of cheap hotels close to the karting.

Please post comments and interest here

breadc - BBQ

Just thought I would post my plan for the weekend. I know we have one by Mark for the Karting but I thought it would help to also show you what I have planned for the rest of the weekend

Friday

16:05 - Pick up Mackie the Staggie from Abergavenny Station

16:20 or 17:20 - Pick up Franky500 from Llanhilleth Station

18:14 - Pick up Boothy from Abergavenny Station

19:05 - Pick up CountBazley from Abergavenny Station

People will be arriving by car all day up until early evening.

So friday will be about taking all the arrivals. There will be snacks and sandwiches etc for the day, then I think we should order take out (chinese/kebabs/pizza's etc) for the evening. We should go over the team pairings also then.

Activities - Pool, Darts, Wii, LFS, cards, chess, getting to know eachother, drinking, eating etc...

11pm to 1am sleep (we need to be up early!)

Saturday

07:00-08:15 Get up, shower and get ready, coffee!! (4 bathrooms so we should be ok)
08:15-9:15 Breakfast at the local Cafe.
9:15-18:00 Karting See below

10:00 - 10:30 Arrive at site
10:30 - 11:00 Kitting out and briefing.
11.00 - 11.30 Practice (10 mins each)
11.45 - 12.45 Mini Endurance - 1 hour race (1 x 20 minute stint each)
12.45 - 13.00 Break
13.00 - 16.00 Main Endurance race - 3 hours race (2 x 30 minute stints each)
16.00 - 17.00 Individual Sprint Races (3 x 10 minute heats with a 10 minute final)
17.00 - Whenever - back to Jason's for those staying the evening.

Note : we will be using the practice session at the start to not only familiarise ourselves with the track, but also check the karts out. Each driver will get a chance to see if their kart is either faulty or slow, any problems can be rectified by pulling in to the pits and telling the marshall. They can then take the kart to the mechanic, who will fix it. We have been assured that the karts are all in good order, but you know how these things work, there's always one kart that runs like a pig!!

18:00-19:00 Showers/change clothes etc
19:00 onwards will be BBQ, watching IGTC (maybe we can get some people to talk on the live stream) and PARTY!!

I have bought plenty of cereal and orange juice so that should send you home OK

House Rules

Smoking is allowed downstairs, but no smoking upstairs at all, and also no shoes upstairs. There is a bathroom (if I finish it in time :P) downstairs so it shouldn't be a problem. There will be a fridge and freezer outside in the marquee so hopefully we shouldn't need to go to the kitchen side of the house too much on the Saturday.

I have 6.5 mbs wireless internet and have taken my password off for the weekend and a HUGE (300 GB) limit so if anyone wants to bring laptops etc they are welcome to use my connection. I also have 4 ethernet ports spare for those without wireless.

There is a LFS flickr group here - http://www.flickr.com/groups/lfs/

I have setup an account for you to use to upload photos and videos, the account id is - lfskart and the password is kartmeet

Photo's from the event will be uploaded to here throughout the weekend so those not attending can follow us

(Obviously please other people please don't start putting crap in there and using our 100mb allowance, this is for the community so don't take the piss)

STROBE, Mackie and Bean0 have left now (shared taxi from my place); Need, felplacerad and a couple of the Wesh guys are still here. I'm far too drunk to make intelligent conversion. Photos to follow.

It's been a bloody good day and I can hardly walk straight, so I think that makes the day fairly successful.

Edit: please continue discussion here: http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=47515

I just assumed but why not?

Currently got Becky Rose, Nihil, Need and felplacerad round here. Hopefully we'll go to bed soon so we're not too knacked tomorrow.

Seeya all at the pub!

No problem, there's enough floor space to go round. It's not a problem if you want to kip two nights either, as I've got felplacerad for three anyway. Of course I'm no B&B, so you need to find your own food, but if you want to cook something for brekky then my kitchen is at your disposal.

No takers on the half price karting? I'll have to start ringing my mates at this rate as I don't want that money to go to waste.

Hello,

I'm sorry but as felplacerad posted already, once you have unlocked a refund is not possible anymore. Just like when you buy a cd (people do still know what that is right?) you cannot return it unless it was sealed and the seal is still in tact.

I'm sorry that you're having a hard time on the servers. Because I wasn't there when you were banned I will assume that perhaps you need to take a step back a little and see what is expected from you when you join a host. Some hosts allow free racing for all, but some hosts require racers to be more experienced. In the latter case you can't just go driving around for fun - I'm sure they'll kick or ban you.

Look at the host before you join it or join the race. Decide if it's good for you and look _when_ you join a race. If it's in the middle of a race, _stay out of people's way_ so that they can finish their race.

I'll close this thread now because I don't think anything more useful will come of it.

Additional read : I got banned. What to do?

Becky's suggestion sounds good. If you come up on the Friday you'd have to amuse yourselves until 6pm when I got home before unloading your gear. Assuming you're still looking to crash? Although I'll definitely be out Friday night as that's when felplacerad is landing from Sweden, so he'll entertaining.

Scott - when there's 20 people wanting to sit close to one another, a large pub is essential, especially when considering how packed everywhere is in the toon on a Saturday night.
You can of course have a liquid diet for the evening if you prefer.

Thank you to those of you who have got back to me already. I have just reset the list in the first post, marked everybody who hasn't paid or dropped out as "no response", and then started sorting people back into groups based on your responses. Please let me know if I've made any mistakes and it looks like I've got you in the wrong group.

I look forward to getting the rest of your responses. Don't hold back if you're dropping out, if I'm only dealing with another 4 attendees, so be it, I'd just rather know.

Cheers again, let's make this a good day!

Edit:
Oh, Shotglass, I can't remember quite who I've offered my floorspace to (I should really find the post where I was making a list), but I've still got three airbeds+sleeping bags available, and two spare rooms (with beds). I'm pretty sure that 5 people haven't asked yet, so there's some freebie accomodation for the night, should you want it. The nicest room is reserved for felplacerad but other than that, people can fight it out for the rest...
